With their 2nd round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft the Cleveland Indians select right-handed pitcher Mitchell Brown out of Rochester Century High School (MN).
Day 2 of the 2012 MLB Draft kicks up at noon today. There will be no live running blog like yesterday and instead - as in years past - we will be posting draft capsules for every player drafted today within minutes of the pick. NOTE: These capsules will not post to the front page, so to see them you will need to click on the "News" tab located to the upper left below the site header.
Day one of the draft is over, and Tony has all kinds of information on first round pick Tyler Naquin. He provides lots of quotes from Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant on the pick, quotes from Naquin himself, and some quotes from some scouts he talked to last night. He also gives lots of commentary on the Indians approach to pick and the rest of the draft, how quickly Naquin could move in the system, and lots more.
Smoke Signals returns to the cyberwaves tonight from 10:00 – 11:00PM EST. Tony and Jim will talk about the Indians recent disappointing homestand with the Royals and Twins and also give some thoughts on tonights Indians-Tigers game. They will also talk about the future of Matt LaPorta with the big league club and review how the Indians have done so far the first two days of the MLB Draft.
Lake County dominated tonight's ATF with some pretty incredible performances over their 13-inning marathon. Jordan Smith took his frustrations out on not being picked for the All-Star team with another outstanding night. Carlos Santana brought his "smooth" swing to Low A for a one-night-only performance. Tonight's top slot was dominance-out-of-nowhere for a Captains reliever. Jim Pete brings his draft-night bravado to tonight's ATF.
The draw on Monday night at Lake County was Indians catcher Carlos Santana, who was making a rehab start with the Captains. Santana is coming off the new 7-day concussion disabled list. However, the fans who stuck around after Santana left the game saw a great minor league baseball game. Lake County (28-29) needed thirteen innings, but won Monday night’s rubber match with Fort Wayne (27-31) in walk off fashion.
Adam McGavin chimes in with his popular Right on, Way off column where he takes a look at both sides of the issue with three questions pertaining to the Cleveland Indians. This week he gives his verdict on if LaPorta should stay in Cleveland, the Indians should or should not be sellers at the trade deadline, and if Ubaldo Jimenez should be removed from the starting rotation.
The Columbus Clippers suffered two losses Monday, falling to the Rochester Red Wings in both games of a double header. Columbus (26-31) lost the first game, 2-1, which was continued Monday afternoon after being postponed due to rain on Sunday. Rochester then went on to win a shortened, seven-inning contest, 4-0.
The Wilmington Blue Rocks took home a 2-0 win over the Carolina Mudcats on a soggy Monday night at Frawley Stadium. The game was called in the fifth inning due to unplayable field conditions. The Mudcats fall to 26-30, while the Blue Rocks improve to 27-29. Francisco Jimenez (5-3) was stuck with the loss after allowing two second inning runs. He gave up six hits, walked two and struck out one.
The Indians selected Texas A&M outfielder Tyler Naquin in the 1st round, 15th overall, of the 2012 MLB Draft. The pick came as somewhat of a surprise as the Indians were supposedly on a college arm and Naquin was not a Top 20 ranked guy by just about every draft source. The IPI staff chimes in on the pick...
The Midwest League has announced their mid-season All Star teams and the Lake County Captains have three representatives on the Eastern Division squad. Francisco Lindor will be the starting shortstop on the squad and he will be joined by starting pitchers Cody Anderson and Joe Colon at the All Star game on June 19 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva, IL which is the home of the Kane County Cougars.
[LAST UPDATE: 9:38 PM ET] The 2012 MLB Draft is here, and the IPI is once again set to be your #1 source for everything that happens this year in the draft for the Cleveland Indians. The draft commences at 7pm tonight with the Indians picking 15th overall, and throughout the day and up until the pick this blog post will be updated several times with information and commentary on the events of the day.
It is Monday, which means it is time to go "Sailing with the Clippers" in Andrew Holleran's weekly notebook on the Indians' Triple-A affiliate. He gets you all caught up on the week that was, tells you who is hot and who is not, reviews all the transactions and games, and more.
The evening was a short one for the Indians' organization, as the Akron Aeros and Columbus Clippers both saw their contests suspended due to rain. With that said, Carolina and Lake County both poured on the runs with victories. Jerrud Sabourin continued his Wally Joyner impersonation (the good year), while a new stud reliever may be emerging. Join Jim Pete's Sunday fray as he takes the journey Around the Farm...
