Day 2 of the 2012 MLB Draft kicks up at noon today. There will be no live running blog like yesterday and instead - as in years past - we will be posting draft capsules for every player drafted today within minutes of the pick. NOTE: These capsules will not post to the front page, so to see them you will need to click on the "News" tab located to the upper left below the site header.
Day one of the draft is over, and Tony has all kinds of information on first round pick Tyler Naquin. He provides lots of quotes from Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant on the pick, quotes from Naquin himself, and some quotes from some scouts he talked to last night. He also gives lots of commentary on the Indians approach to pick and the rest of the draft, how quickly Naquin could move in the system, and lots more.
Smoke Signals returns to the cyberwaves tonight from 10:00 – 11:00PM EST. Tony and Jim will talk about the Indians recent disappointing homestand with the Royals and Twins and also give some thoughts on tonights Indians-Tigers game. They will also talk about the future of Matt LaPorta with the big league club and review how the Indians have done so far the first two days of the MLB Draft.
Lake County dominated tonight's ATF with some pretty incredible performances over their 13-inning marathon. Jordan Smith took his frustrations out on not being picked for the All-Star team with another outstanding night. Carlos Santana brought his "smooth" swing to Low A for a one-night-only performance. Tonight's top slot was dominance-out-of-nowhere for a Captains reliever. Jim Pete brings his draft-night bravado to tonight's ATF.
The draw on Monday night at Lake County was Indians catcher Carlos Santana, who was making a rehab start with the Captains. Santana is coming off the new 7-day concussion disabled list. However, the fans who stuck around after Santana left the game saw a great minor league baseball game. Lake County (28-29) needed thirteen innings, but won Monday night’s rubber match with Fort Wayne (27-31) in walk off fashion.
