Big night from Rodriguez lifts Mudcats past Keys
Coming off an eight game road trip the Carolina Mudcats (13-13) returned home and beat the Frederick Keys (9-15) on Friday night 10-4. Three run innings in the second, fifth and seventh gave the Mudcats pitchers all the run support they would need. The offense was led by shortstop Ronny Rodriguez who entered the game hitting only .188, but after a 4-for-4 night it bumped up to .225. He also had two doubles, drove in two runs, and scored three runs.

The 2012 Transaction Rundown: April 28-May 4
This week's edition of Transaction Rundown comes on Cinco de Mayo, as Arthur celebrates the first Cleveland Indians' transaction figured in his weekly piece. Welcome to the club, Johnny Damon! At the same time Lonnie Chisenhall has some bad news this week at Columbus, as does Giovanny Urshela. It's not a good week to be a third baseman, unless you are Super Jack Hannahan.

Cannon looks to make good on opportunity
No one ever said playing in the minor leagues was easy. Sometimes players have to sit and wait for an opportunity, and then when that opportunity comes they have to seize it. High-A Carolina utility player Tyler Cannon may be getting that opportunity and chance right now.

The future of first base
Who’s on first? The 2012 MLB season is just 23 games old, and it seems as if Indians fans would love to answer that question with anyone other than Casey Kotchman. While Kotchman looks like he is locked into the position at least for another few weeks, Steve Orbanek says it is time to look at possible short term and long term options from within the organization.

Smith's late homer leads Captains to another win
A trio of home runs lifted the Lake County Captains over the Dayton Dragons in a 5-4 victory on Thursday night. After taking the first game of the series on Wednesday, the Captains turned to Elvis Araujo (0-4, 2.61), who was still seeking his first win of the season. The Captains earned Araujo some early run support in their half of the first inning as center fielder Luigi Rodriguez led the game off with a walk. Shortstop Francisco Lindor laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Rodriguez to second, and Lindor reached base on a throwing error by Dayton pitcher Radhames Quezada (0-3, 2.61).

Second Thoughts: Game #23 - Indians 7, White Sox 5
The Indians won another road series - their fourth in a row to open the season - with a 7-5 win in Chi-Town on Thursday night. Jason Kipnis was the star of the show with a triple and three-run homer and it helped propel the team to another victory and maintain their hold on first place as they head home on Friday to face the tough Rangers team. Jason Ruggiero provides his "second thoughts" on the game.

Akron's streak comes to an end in 7-3 loss
The Akron Aeros lost their home stand finale 7-3 after falling into a deep hole early in the game. Mason Radeke (1-1, 0.00) lost his first game after pitching three innings in a spot start. In the first, Radeke got two quick outs before walking B-Mets second baseman Reese Havens. The next runner reached on a fielding error by shortstop Juan Diaz. On-Deck with the Captains: 4/26/12 - 5/2/12
The Lake County Captains may not be doing good in the win-loss column, but the talent on the team is probably the most interesting to follow this season. In her weekly "On-Deck" notebook, Lianna recaps the week that was for the Captains with the good/bad hitting and pitching performances and news and notes.
