The Akron Aeros stole a season-high five bases as they went on to sweep the Trenton Thunder in a three-game series winning the finale 7-4 Thursday at Waterfront Park.
Akron (58-54) also stole five bases May 11 at Erie. Three of those five bases were stolen by Juan Diaz, which is a 2011 high.

Right-handed pitcher Cory Burns surpassed Randy Newsom as the Akron Aeros single-season saves leader notching his franchise best 30th save of 2011 in the teams 3-2 win over the Trenton Thunder in game two of a three-game set Wednesday at Waterfront Park.
Newsom’s mark of 29 saves stood for three seasons.
Ryan MerrittAccording to Baseball America senior writer Jim Callis, the Indians have signed 16th round pick left-handed pitcher Ryan Merritt for $150K. He likely will be assigned to Arizona where he can start working out and ramp up his pitching so he can throw in games at the end of the year in the Arizona League or in Instructional League in the fall.
