Triple-A Columbus right-handed reliever Bryce Stowell was drafted by the Cleveland Indians just two years ago in the 22nd round of the 2008 Draft out of UC-Irvine. He was a draft eligible sophomore and 21 years old, so he had the option of returning to college for another year or two, but the Indians pried him out of college with a $725,000 bonus.
Right now, that is looking like money well...
This Sunday is one of those rare days in the minor leagues for the Kinston Indians, a scheduled off day. So what does that mean for the Sunday Drive? Well, it's time to kick our feet up, relax, and ponder the Big League Indians and their day-night doubleheader sweep of the Detroit Tigers. What does this craziness mean? As a near 40-year Indians fan, I can safely say that this doesn't mean much of...

Fellow Indians writer and colleague Steve Buffum has teamed up with a number of bloggers to produce a trade deadline primer for fans of all teams around Major League Baseball. Buffum has written several Indians specific essays for the primer which includes report cards for all Indians players, a description of the season to date, and just who the Indians will target to trade and acquire in return.
When he is on the mound, High-A Kinston right-handed reliever Rob Bryson is flat-out dominating.
So far in 2010 between Low-A Lake County and Kinston, Bryson has struck out 53 and walked just 10 batters in 30 1/3 innings pitched. Opposing hitters are batting just .159 against him, and his WHIP is a stellar 0.89.
Unfortunately for Bryson and Indians fans, his time on the mound has...
After taking one game in at Eastwood Field this past week, it was very obvious to me why this team hasn't been performing well. A few things specifically stuck out to me, all of which are very fixable; not aggressive on the bases, not knowing where to be in the field in certain situations, swinging at the first pitch, and not drawing many walks. The one other thing that I noticed towards the end of...
De La Cruz Leads Aeros to 6-1 Win Over Erie
Aeros lefty Kelvin De La Cruz earned his first win in exactly two months Thursday night as Akron defeated the visiting Erie SeaWolves by the final score of 6-1. The 6
As mentioned, I am on on the road for trip to Florida that will eventually find my way in Kinston, NC at the tail end of it. With that in mind, while I am away from my computer all day today I thought it would be a good time to post these videos from Mahoning Valley I took the first week of their season.
For many of you, this is the first look at a lot of these players in action, so hopefully...
Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves tonight with another edition of "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30 PM EST. At least that is the plan at the moment. I am currently on my way to Florida and making the all day drive to get there late tonight. Depending on the events of the drive down I may not be able to make it on the air, but even if I can't Paul may still do the show with a guest host....
Kinston Beats Potomac 3-1
Kinston snapped a three game losing streak, taking down Potomac 3-1 Wednesday night in Woodbridge, VA. The Kinston bats came to life with 13 total hits on the night.
The K-Tribe got to Potomac's starter Jordan Zimmerman, on a Major League rehab stint coming off of Tommy John surgery, in the top of the first inning. Karexon Sanchez hit a one-out double, then...
Tomorrow I head out of town for two weeks as I will be making my annual summer trek to Florida for a family trip and then will be doing baseball related stuff at the tail end of it in Kinston. With that in mind I felt it best to clear out the inbox before I go and post some answers to questions I have received recently regarding the Indians and their minor league teams/players.
As a reminder,...
Scrappers salvage game three, beat Renegades, 4-2
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 4-2 Tuesday night to win the final game of this three-game set and snap a four-game losing streak. Diego Seastrunk's RBI double in the bottom of sixth eventually became the difference putting the Scrappers on top for good at 3-2. Jordan Casas tacked on a run with a RBI single.
"Minor Happenings" is a weekly column which covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
Here is the second part of...
