Clip & Dirty: 7/22
The Clippers fell in their series finale against the Durham Bulls and leave North Carolina with a series split and a ½ game lead in the race for the best record in the International League. Josh Tomlin was dominant until the 6th inning when he gave up a walk and a couple hits to allow his only 2 runs of the night. The Clippers offense had trouble getting things going and only managed a pair of runs...

Game Recap 7/22: K-Tribe Rally Sparks Win
Kinston Comes Back to Beat Wilmington 10-3
The K-Tribe used a six-run seventh inning to overcome an early 3-0 deficit in a 10-3 win over Wilmington on Thursday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. Kinston capatalized on four Blue Rock walks and a bases loaded triple by Abner Abreu to turn the tide late in the contest.
Wilmington struck first against Kinston starter T.J. McFarland in...

Fontanez's Versatility Helps Career, Scrappers
Defense is the name of Kevin Fontanez’s game.
Fontanez, the Indians’ 24th round pick in the 2008 Draft out of Puerto Rico, is smallish in stature at 5’11 and 170-pounds and just turned 20-years old a few weeks back. He has long been considered suspect with the bat, but gifted with the glove where he has plus range and a plus arm at shortstop.
That expertise is now being put...

Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves tonight with another edition of "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30 PM EST. Due to some schedule conflicts the past two weeks with LeBron James' and his "decision" two weeks ago tonight and me being on the road to Florida last week, we had to scratch the show at the last minute the past two weeks. Right now all signs point to us being on the air for sure...

Game Recap 7/21: Hodges Comes Through in Clutch
Hodges' hit propels Clippers in 12 innings
Wes Hodges' two-run double off the top of Durham Bulls Athletic Park's famed Blue Monster helped the Clippers to an 8-6 victory in 12 innings Wednesday night. Columbus had blown a five-run lead before Hodges came up with his first hit in 14 at-bats in the series.
Columbus plated two in the first inning, thanks to an RBI-single from Jared Goedert...

Moncrief Working On Position Switch
Carlos Moncrief is a guy almost every Cleveland Indians fan probably has never heard of. He was the Indians 14th round selection in the 2008 Draft out of Chipola College in Florida, and spent his first two professional seasons prior to this year out in the island that is rookie league ball in the Gulf Coast League in Florida in 2008 and in the Arizona League in 2009.
This year the 21-year old...

Game Recap 7/20: Aeros Continue Winning Ways
Kipnis Leads Aeros Sluggers to 10-3 Victory
Second baseman Jason Kipnis homered twice Tuesday night as the Aeros improved to a perfect 6-0 since the All-Star Break with a 10-3 win over the Altoona Curve. Kipnis starred while three other Akron players also hit home runs against Altoona starter Jared Hughes. It was yet another blowout at Canal Park in front of 2,602 fans and a 22-minute rain...

Clip & Dirty: 7/19
The Clippers opened up their series against the Tampa Bay Rays affiliate, the Durham Bulls, with a pedestrian 8-3 victory. The Clippers managed 12 walks against the Bulls’ staff and were able to pair that with yet another quality start from Yohan Pino to insure an easy victory after three consecutive walks, an error, sac fly and single drove highly-touted Rays’ prospect, Jeremy Hellickson, from...

The year is 1998.
Bill Clinton is accused of sexual harassment by Paula Jones. Ramzi Yousef is sentenced to life in prison for planning the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing. The Unabomber pleads guilty, and is sentenced to life without parole. Bill Clinton goes on national TV and delivers the infamous line, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," speaking about Monia Lewinsky. The...

Aeros Homer Thrice in 4-1 Win Over Altoona
The Akron Aeros slugged three solo home runs Monday night in a crucial 4-1 victory over the first-place Altoona Curve at Canal Park. Rehabbing Cleveland Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, red-hot right fielder Matt McBride and left fielder Jerad Head all homered as Akron won for the fifth straight game. Aeros right-handed starter Alex White also earned...

Akron's Week That Was: 7/12 - 7/18
Nothing like padding your win total against the division's worst team. Akron continued their rare eight game series against Erie this week in addition to taking a few days off for the Eastern League All-Star game. After dropping the first half finale, the Aeros bounced back to sweep the second four-game set against Erie. The Aeros got a boost for three games as Asdrubal Cabrera joined the club on...

After starting the month of July on a 5-game win streak, the Clippers have hit a little bit of a rough patch and have only won 3 of their past 8 games. Last night continued the trend as the Clippers were blanked 4-0 by Zach Britton and the Norfolk Tides. Josh Tomlin posted a quality start but the offense could never get it going.
Team Offense: 6H, 1XBH, 1BB, 5SO, 3 GIDP
Not too much...

Stowell Is Blazing A Path To Big Leagues
Triple-A Columbus right-handed reliever Bryce Stowell was drafted by the Cleveland Indians just two years ago in the 22nd round of the 2008 Draft out of UC-Irvine. He was a draft eligible sophomore and 21 years old, so he had the option of returning to college for another year or two, but the Indians pried him out of college with a $725,000 bonus.
Right now, that is looking like money well...

This Sunday is one of those rare days in the minor leagues for the Kinston Indians, a scheduled off day. So what does that mean for the Sunday Drive? Well, it's time to kick our feet up, relax, and ponder the Big League Indians and their day-night doubleheader sweep of the Detroit Tigers. What does this craziness mean? As a near 40-year Indians fan, I can safely say that this doesn't mean much of...
