Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves tonight with another edition of "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30 PM EST. If anyone has been wondering where the show has been the past two weeks, we had planned to cancel the 5/6 show because I was on the road to Myrtle Beach though last week's 5/13 show was a last minute cancellation because I was very ill.
In any case, we are back on after...
"Indians Minor League Magazine" is a half hour program on the Cleveland Indians cable network SportsTime Ohio (STO) which airs weekly on Tuesday nights from 6:00-6:30 PM EST. The show recaps all of the highlights from the week that was in the Cleveland Indians farm system with lots of video, interviews, and in-studio guests.
This year I am writing the "Diamond In the Rough" feature which...
Kinston Beats Salem 4-3, Takes 4th Straight Series
The Kinston Indians secured their fourth straight series win, as starter Joe Gardner pitched a gem in a 5-3 win over Salem. The Wednesday night win at Historic Grainger Stadium was Kinston's tenth in their last 12 games overall.
Gardner (2-0) picked up his second win of the season, pitching six innings of one hit ball. Gardner struck...
The Cleveland Indians today made a series of roster moves as they have placed outfielder Grady Sizemore on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 17th, with a bone bruise on his left knee and have transferred infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to the 60-day disabled list. To assume Sizemore's spot on the active 25-man roster, the Indians purchased the contract of outfielder Shelley Duncan from AAA...
It's time for another edition of the IPI Inbox to post some answers to some of the questions I have received recently regarding the Cleveland Indians. Be it the draft, the big league team, or the minor leagues, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Also, the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft is quickly approaching and is less than three weeks away (Monday June 7th). The...
Yes, that’s right, the first half of the Midwest League season has reached the halfway point. The Captains lead the Eastern Division with a 27-11 record, tied with the big league Tampa Bay Rays for the best record in all of professional baseball.
Just for a little clarification, the Midwest League divides its season into two halves of 70 games each. The Captains played their 38th game on...
Smit Lifts Captains Again to 5-2 Win
Jason Smit provided the late night heroics once again on Tuesday night. With the game tied at two a piece, Smit skied a ball deep down the leftfield line, clearing the wall for his second of the season and a 3-2 lead in the eighth. The Captains went on to win 5-2 over the White Caps.
Casey Frawley started the scoring, hitting a solo homerun in...
As mentioned last night on my Twitter page, the Indians have called up Triple-A Columbus infielder Jason Donald. The move was made official this morning when they placed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left forearm.
Cabrera was injured in the 1st inning of last night’s 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in Tropicana Field. So far this year, Cabrera was...
Carlos Santana (2/2, 2HR, 2BB, 5RBI) continued to lay waste to the International League. The Clippers themselves haven’t been too much worse as they went into last night tied for the best record in the IL with Durham and broke that tie following their 5-1 win over the Bulls. Standing at 24-15 they have a 3 game lead in the IL West.
Team Hitting: 5R, 6H, 2XBH, 5BB
There comes a time...
A quick note: I tweeted this news last night, but infielder Jason Donald has been called to Cleveland and infielder Josh Rodriguez is being sent to Columbus.
Gosling Finishes Career On High Note
It was deja vu Monday night at Huntington Park, as a huge Carlos Santana home run and a reliever-turned-starter led Columbus to a victory over the Durham Bulls for the second straight day....
For those following the Double-A Akron team, one thing that has been noticeable the last couple weeks is how many games third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall has missed, and when he has played how he has only been in the lineup as the designated hitter.
Chisenhall has not played since Wednesday May 12th, and the last six games he has played have all been as the designated hitter as the last game...
The Indians today traded right-handed reliever Saul Rivera to Arizona for cash considerations. Rivera was 2-0 with 4 saves and a 0.53 ERA (17.0IP, 9H, 2R/1ER, 7BB, 11K) in 15 apperances for the AAA Columbus Clippers so far this year. He will be added to the Diamondbacks Major League roster. He had a May 15th opt out clause in his contract where he had to be on a big league roster or he could request...
The Midwest League announced today that the Captains Chun Chen has been named Midwest League batter of the week for the week of May 10 through the 16.
Chen, a 21 year old catcher out of Hualian County, Taiwan hit .435 in six games. He had two doubles, three triples and a home run. Chen drove in five runs and scored four runs. For the season Chen has a .326 batting average with three homers...
It was a wet week for the Aeros as they saw two games get washed out due to rain. It forced the club to play two doubleheaders, one against Reading and one against Erie. The Aeros managed to split against Erie, but they dropped the doubleheader to Reading as a part of their series loss. There is some excitement though in Akron as Kelvin De La Cruz made his debut and he did not disappoint.
Here...
Tomlin, Santana help Clippers beat Bulls
The Columbus Clippers found their stride and their bats on Sunday afternoon at Huntington Park, as they defeated the Durham Bulls, 5-0. Josh Tomlin pitched well for Columbus as he blanked the Bulls on the afternoon, a team that outscored the Clippers in the first two games of the series, 15-4.
Carlos Santana had another big game against the...
