Here are the box scores from the action on Thursday, a day that turned into quite the eventful day in minor league camp with cuts and rosters being announced. I don't have rosters yet, and when I do get them I don't think I will be able to officially post them for a few days. But here is what I know offhand (reminder these are are unofficial):
- TJ House and Kelvin De La Cruz in Kinston rotation.
Opening Day is only four days away....can you believe it? That's no April Fool's joke either.
With that in mind Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves tonight to talk all things Indians baseball on our weekly on-line broadcast "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30 PM EST. This week the focus will be entirely on the big league team as we wrap up all the happenings this spring, make sense...
As noted earlier today, the Indians made some final roster cuts today in minor league camp. Aside from maybe another player or two being cut over the next few days, it looks like these are the final cuts this spring:
Tom Mastny (RHP)
Mark Thompson (SS)
Dallas Cawiezell (RHP)
Adam White (OF)
Chris Nash (1B)
Matt Brown (OF)
Michael Pontius (RHP)
In not much of a surprise announcement today, the Indians have optioned out right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco to Triple-A Columbus. In doing so, they also named left-hander David Huff as the final starter in the opening day rotation. The 25-man roster - barring injuries - is now set for opening day this coming Monday.
Barring injury, here is the opening day roster:
Here are the box scores from Wednesday's minor league action against the Brewers. As an aside, no decision has been made on who the winner is between David Huff and Carlos Carrasco for the final spot in the big league rotation, but manager Manny Acta is supposed to address the media late Thursday morning with his decision. It is very much expected that Huff will be the guy who wins the spot.
