"Minor Happenings" is a weekly column which covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
The 2010 season officially...
Tonight Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves with another edition of "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30 PM EST. We will recap the week that was for the big league Indians as well as what went down in the minor leagues. Needless to say, it was a forgettable week for the big league club, but we will dig a little deeper into the results from the week as sometimes wins-losses don't tell the whole...
Seven in a Row for Lake County
Captains' leftfielder Bo Greenwell was at it again Wednesday night collecting another three hits, and it was his two-run single capping off a three run second inning that proved to be the difference as Lake County won their seventh straight beating Lansing, 7-3.
It was the home opener for the Lugnuts and the Captains jumped out in front on Chun Chen's...
Welcome to 2010's inaugural edition of Three Up, Three Down. Minor league play for all of the full season affiliates started last week, and while it is still a small sample size, we have some players who are hot, and also some who are not throughout the Indians' minor league system.
We're going to add another feature to Three Up, Three Down this year; what I'll call the "Bold Prediction Tracker."...
Tell me there isn't a small part of you, faithful reader, that doesn't envision a starting rotation for the Big League Tribe that is anchored by Nick Hagadone, Alex White and T.J. House after their first starts of the High Single-A season. I know that the sample is small, but every indicator points to all three being top-end starters at the highest level (and let's not forget Kelvin De La Cruz and...
The Low-A Lake County Captains continued their impressive start by sweeping a three game series from the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate. With the sweep, Lake County now sits alone on top of the Midwest League’s Eastern Division with a 6-0 record.
The Captains’ success has been based on timely hitting and a strong bullpen coming from behind in four games this...
Walkoff Winner For Gimenez, Clippers
In a game which was shown on live television all over Ohio by the Indians cable network SportsTime Ohio, outfielder Chris Gimenez provided a made for TV moment with a dramatic solo home run to left field with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the host Columbus Clippers a 4-3 win.
The win was made possible by yet more dramatics in...
Scott Lewis is your focal point this morning as he went 6, gave up only 4 base runners and struck out 10 in the Clippers 5-3 win over Louisville. Lewis is one of the litany of lefty ‘finesse’ guys that the Indians formerly tried to hang their hats on and here’s hoping that the 5th time is the charm, with Laffey, Sowers, Jackson and Huff all being pretty well-known commodities and none of them...
It's time to clear out the inbox, which as expected with the start of the season is starting to fill up much more quickly. With that in mind, the IPI Inbox will likely become a weekly feature this season, likely on Saturday. If you have a question on anything pertaining to the Indians minor league players and team, or even the big league team, feel free to contact me. I also pull from questions in...
Columbus Wins Again, Lewis Impresses
As has been the case throughout their season-opening home stand, a big inning was the difference for Columbus as the Clippers won 5-3 to open a two-game series with Louisville Bats. This time it was a five-run sixth that propelled the Clippers to a 5-3 victory, and their first winning streak since July of last year.
Former Ohio State star Scott...
Here is a listing of all of the 2010 transactions up and down the Indians minor league system. As moves are made this year, they will be recorded here promptly and for easy reference. A "Transactions" tab has been added along the top of the site below the title header where the "Webring" tab used to be (the Webring tab is now along the top of the page). The listing has two different lists, an "overall"...
On Sunday afternoon, left-hander T.J. House made his advanced Single-A debut in the Carolina League for the Kinston Indians. He did not disappoint, going five strong innings where he allowed two runs on six hits and one walks, but most impressively had ten strikeouts.
Depending on what publication you refer to House is a top ten prospect in the Indians system or just outside of the top ten....
I'd like to stop opening up these posts with praise for Carlos Santana, but he keeps hitting home runs, and I keep writing eulogies for the Indianapolis pitching staffs' careers. Yielding 41 runs, on 17 BB's, and 52 hits in their first series of the 2010 campaign cannot help their standing with the parent club. Especially when half of those hits went for extra bases and 10 now reside in fans living...
Aeros Score 11 Again in 11-8 Win
The Aeros held off a feverish B-Mets rally in the ninth to take an 11-8 decision Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Designated hitter Nick Weglarz led a 17-hit barrage with a three-hit day featuring a grand slam homer and four RBI.
The two teams were held scoreless by starters Mike Antonini and Paolo Espino until the fourth inning. Antonini allowed...
The year is 1991.
Congress votes to allow military force to liberate Kuwait. Operation Desert Storm begins, and Iraq fires SCUD missiles into Israel. A month and a half after hostilities begin, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein announces he is withdrawing his forces from Kuwait, setting fire to oil wells the entire way. The U.N. Security Council passes the Cease Fire Agreement, Resolution 687....
