The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have claimed infielder Anderson Hernandez off of outright waivers from the New York Mets. To allow room for Hernandez on the 40-man roster, infielder Brian Bixler was designated for assignment.
Hernandez, 27, spent all but one game last year with the New York Mets and Washington Nationals. He hit a combined .251 (92-366) in 123 games with 15 2B,...
Smith A Man On A Mission
Indians right-handed reliever Carlton Smith had a nice year last season pitching in the bullpen at Double-A Akron where he went 6-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 37 appearances. He piggybacked his successful year with a trip to the Arizona Fall League (5.14 ERA, 12 G) and then to the Indians’ Winter Development Program this past January which was held in Cleveland and Goodyear....
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have acquired RHP OMAR AGUILAR from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for LHP CHUCK LOFGREN. Aguilar will report to minor league camp in Goodyear, AZ in the coming days.
Aguilar, 25, spent the 2009 season between Brevard County (A) and Huntsville (AA). He went a combined 3-1 with a 4.72 ERA and 14 saves in 41 relief appearances (55.1IP, 52H, 29ER,...
Short update today, I will have longer updates the rest of the week.
Morris On The Mend
Left-handed pitcher Ryan Morris suffered a shoulder injury last July with High-A Kinston which shut him down for the remainder of the season. After an offseason of rehab and getting his shoulder back in shape to handle a regular pitching load in 2010, he is currently participating in spring training...
Al is in Goodyear this week with me to follow the Indians and the minor league teams. Today he provides some of his observations from the B game back at the Goodyear complex and then the big league game in Peoria on Sunday.
The Indians were split up on Sunday, with a 7-inning "B" game in Goodyear at one of the minor league fields in the morning in addition to the normal spring training game...
Miller's Future Still Unknown
Things today are much different for the Cleveland Indians and right-handed pitcher Adam Miller than they were at this time three years ago.
Going into the 2007 season Miller was the Indians number #1 prospect for the third straight year, and at the time he and another top pitching prospect in right-hander Fausto Carmona looked to be the two aces in the...
Former Indians left-handed pitcher Chuck Lofgren may not be a former Indian for long. Lofgren was taken in the Rule 5 Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers back in December, but today through a reliable source it was learned that the Brewers have offered him back to the Indians.
Before Lofgren can return to the Indians he must pass through waivers. It is very likely he will pass through waivers,...
Well, I finally head out to Goodyear, Arizona today to go out and almost exclusively cover the Indians minor league system for the next week and a half. I say "almost" exclusively as I will be making more of an effort to check out major league camp and big league games mostly because of the strong presence of young players on the 40-man roster. In any case, over the course of the next week and a...
Paul Cousineau and I take back to the cyberwaves tonight on a special edition of "Smoke Signals" from 9:30-10:30pm EST. The show this week was moved up from Thursday to Wednesday because yours truly will be in the air tomorrow night on his trek out to Goodyear, Arizona to cover the Indians in spring training.
Tonight we will look at the Indians outfield situation and how it sets up to start...
