Rochester beat the Clippers 6-1 in the finale of an eight-game road swing. Both starters, Chuck Lofgren and Brian Deunsing, were on top of their game. The Wings scored two runs in the third, assisted by a defensive miscue, to take an early lead. The Clippers scored their only run in the fourth. Tony Graffanino smashed his second of three doubles, and Andy Marte scored him with...

The Scrappers have raced out to a 6-1 start to their season, and we'll talk a little bit about two of the players that are fueling that start. Additionally, we'll touch on my favorite Indians minor leaguer, a bump in the road for a top prospect, and starting pitching issues...

The Rochester Red Wings rallied last and beat the Clippers 8-7 on Thursday.
The Clippers scored four times off of Triple-A rookie Jeff Manship in the opening frame. Doubles by Matt LaPorta, Tony Graffanino, Andy Marte and a single by Damaso Espino made it a 4-0 lead for Columbus. The wide margin would not last as Kirk Saarloos served up a three-run...
Just a quick note that Paul Cousineau and I will be in the cyber waves again tonight talking Tribe on our weekly radio show Smoke Signals from 9:30-10:30 PM EST.
With the Indians season all but over, we will talk about where it all went wrong and where we go from here. We'll also talk about all the recent news and developments with the big league team and in the minor league system.

Back in 2002 when Indians Owner Larry Dolan and General Manager Mark Shapiro implemented "The Plan", the idea was to build from within with a focus on pitching that would "come in waves".
Seven years later those waves have been reduced to barely a ripple in what has been a sea of disappointment that has been "The Plan". The fact that the Indians have very little on the current pitching staff...

Clippers beat Rochester
Columbus scored early and often earning a 9-5 win over the Rochester Red Wings. Rochester scored first, but the Clippers got on the board in the second inning. Ground outs from Wyatt Toregas and Andy Cannizaro plated a pair of runs. With the game knotted 2-2 in the fourth, the Clippers opened up offensively, plating four...
The Indians have announced they have acquired RHP Jose Veras from the Yankees for cash considerations. Veras is expected to join the Tribe later this week, most likely on Friday when the Indians return to Cleveland to face the Reds. It is unclear who the Indians will move from the active roster to make room for Veras. This year, the 28-year old Veras made 25 appearances with the Yankees, going 3-1...
Today, the Indians traded first baseman Michael Aubrey to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a player to be named later. At Triple-A Columbus, Aubrey was hitting .292 (62-for-212) with 27 runs scored, 16 doubles, a triple, 5 HR and 29 RBI in 57 games. With Matt LaPorta and Jordan Brown, as well as the soon to be returning Stephen Head all vying for time at first base, this move was necessary....
High-A Kinston third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall won the home run derby last night that occurred before the Carolina League California League All Star Game. He beat out five other players, and is the first Kinston player to win the home run derby since Chris Gimenez did it two years ago in 2007. More on this and the other all star game results later this week in Minor Happenings.

Clippers snap losing streak
The Clippers beat Rochester 8-7 in ten innings in the first of a four-game series. The Clippers scored a run in the first inning, but after that early success, it looked like it was going to be a re-run of the last six games. Red Wings starter Anthony Swarzak shut out Columbus for the next six...
