The Cleveland Indians today recalled LHP Aaron Laffey from AAA Columbus. He will start today, April 15 vs. the Kansas City Royals in KC. To allow room on the 25-man roster the Indians optioned INF Josh Barfield to AAA Columbus.
Aaron made his first start of the 2009 minor league season on Sat., April 11 in Louisville for AAA Columbus, a 5-1 win for the Bats (3.1IP, 6H, 5R/ER, 2BB, 1K, 60P)....

Indianapolis Sinks Clippers 13-6
Hide the women and children as it was not a pretty night last night for the Clippers as Columbus pitching allowed 13 runs (12 earned), 17 hits, 3 walks and 1 home run in what was a 13-6 loss. Starter Jack Cassel was feasted on by Indianapolis to the tune of 7 runs, 9 hits, 2 walks, and just 1 strikeout in 3.1 innings. Things did not get any better for lefty...

he Indians today activated right-hander Carlton Smith who was on the 7-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. He fills the hole in the bullpen with the departure of lefty Ryan Edell to Triple-A Columbus a few days ago. He was 12-6 with a 4.37 ERA at advanced Single-A Kinston last year and will pitch out of the bullpen in Akron. The roster is now full

It is a marriage made in heaven.
A marriage that saw the Cleveland Indians and Columbus Clippers come together last September to hammer out a deal to move the Indians Triple-A operation out of Buffalo, NY into the Indians home state, and state capital to boot. Football may be king in Cleveland and Columbus, but now they also share another common bond: Indians fever.
The 2009 season...

LaPorta Returns, Columbus Wins
Anyone worried about Triple-A Columbus outfielder Matt LaPorta's injury to his midsection on Saturday night can rest easy. After taking the day off on Sunday to rest, he was back in the lineup on Monday night and went 1-for-4 and played defensively out in left field.
As for the game itself, Columbus won 3-2. They trailed 2-0 going into the 8th inning,...

Akron had a scheduled day off on Easter Sunday.
Columbus Drops 3rd Straight
Columbus lost 5-1 to Louisville on Sunday, their third straight defeat. The Clippers had many chances to put up runs in the game, but never could get the big hit needed to breakthrough on the scoreboard. They had the bases loaded three times, twice with less than two outs, and failed to score.
Right-hander...

Indians top outfield prospect Matt LaPorta had to be removed from the second game of the Triple-A Columbus Clippers games last night because of tightness in his right mid-section. According to the Indians, LaPorta is okay and was removed for precautionary reasons because of the cold temperatures. He is not expected to be out long, if at all, and is day to day.
In other news, left-hander Ryan...

Columbus Drops Doubleheader
The Columbus Clippers lost both games of their doubleheader on Saturday night, losing the first game 5-1 and the nightcap 5-4. Both games were seven innings because of the doubleheader to makeup the rainout on Friday night.
In the first game, lefty Aaron Laffey only went 3.1 innings and threw 60 pitches before being removed, possibly setting him up for a...

Well, we are barely three days into the start of the minor league season, and already it looks like we are going to have a couple of moves coming down the pipeline in the next 12-24 hours. The Indians earlier today placed lefty Scott Lewis on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow strain, and purchased the contract of Vinnie Chulk from Triple-A Columbus.
Now, as a result of this move, you...

Offense Handcuffed as Aeros Blanked 3-0
AKRON, OH – Bowie starter Troy Patton made a victorious return to the pitching mound after shoulder surgery sidelined him for all of 2008 and the Akron offense mustered just four hits as the Baysox shutout the Aeros 3-0 before 1,042 hearty souls at Canal Park Friday night. Bowie earned its first win of...

Akron closer Vinnie Pestano shares his thoughts on yesterday's tragedy where Nick Adenhart and two others lost their life in an auto accident, while another is in critical condition holding on to his life.
On a day that should be one of the most memorable of my young professional career I find myself not worried about baseball and my own future in this game for the first time in a very, very...

It was a disappointing end to the season last year for the Indians advanced Single-A affiliate the Kinston Indians. While they finished the year with a winning record at 72-66, a long late-season losing streak proved to be the fatal blow to their playoff chances and they missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Last season was the first time Kinston missed the Carolina League playoffs...

Aeros Advantageous in 2-1 Win
AKRON, OH – A night after using nine walks to secure a victory the Aeros took advantage of seven free passes from Bowie pitching to claim a 2-1 triumph over the Baysox before 1,208 fans at Canal Park Thursday evening. Akron improved to 2-0 on the young Eastern League season while Bowie remained winless at 0-2.
Akron’s Frank Herrmann and Bowie’s Jake...

Paul Cousineau and I are back on the cyberwaves after a week off last week. It has been a crazy past two weeks where Adam Burke subbed for me on 3/26 and we had to cancel the scheduled show on 4/2 due to reasons out of our control.
In any case, we have lots to catch up on and talk about tonight. Spring training has wrapped up and we will briefly talk about our experience out in the desert....

The Indians Double-A affiliate the Akron Aeros kicked off their season last night, winning in impressive fashion 9-5. What else is new these days in Akron.
Akron has been one of the Indians more successful affiliates in terms of wins and championships. They qualified for the playoffs last year for the fourth straight year and sixth time in the last seven years. More impressive, they have made...

AKRON, OH – Starter Hector Rondon carried a shutout into the sixth and catcher Carlos Santana belted a home run and drove in four as Akron strolled to a 9-5 win over Bowie before 6,615 fans at Canal Park on Opening Night Wednesday. The Aeros improved to 12-9 all-time in season openers with the win.
Rondon struck out a pair in a scoreless top of the first, and the offense gave him an immediate...

I just realized thanks to a comment on my Columbus roster posted on my blog yesterday that Juan Salas is MIA. He is not on their Opening Day roster, and it never occurred to me that really since March 21st he has been missing from Indians camp. He was optioned out on March 19th, pitched in a minor league spring game on March 21st and only threw a third of an inning and ten pitches before being removed....

Minor league opening day is roughly 48 hours away for most teams, and with that I will be providing team previews for all the Indians full-season minor league affiliates through the end of this week. Today, we kick things off with the Single-A Lake County Captains.
Last season the Captains recaptured some of that magic they had in their inaugural season at Lake County in 2003 when they steamrolled...

One note on the Kinston roster, outfielder John Allman has replaced Jason Denham. It is believed that Denham has been released.
Anyway, here is the Opening Day Columbus Clippers roster:

Bullpen: Greg Aquino (RHP), Vinnie Chulk (RHP), Matt Herges (RHP), John Meloan (RHP),...
