Minor Happenings: Gimenez Is Tearing It Up
"Minor Happenings" covers the important developments and news in the Indians farm system. While most of the information in this report is from my own research and through interviews I have conducted with organizational personnel, some information in this report is collected and summarized from the various news outlets that cover each team.
Several pieces are in the pipeline which I hope to...

Right-hander Josh Tomlin and infielder Niuman Romero were selected to the Carolina League All-Star roster on Wednesday. Five members of the Carolina League All-Star team will not participate due to organizational call-ups, including Kinston pitcher Steven Wright, and Tomlin and Romero were chosen as two of the replacements.
Also, right-hander Paolo Espino has been re-activated in Kinston. Word...

The moves I mentioned yesterday of Steven Wright and Jim Deters being promoted from Kinston to Akron have been made official. Shawn Nottingham was reassigned from Akron to Kinston, and right-hander Michael Finocchi was activated from extended spring training and assigned to Kinston. Finocchi was rehabbing from a broken foot.

Just a quick note to mention Steven Wright and Jim Deters have been promoted to Akron and Shawn Nottingham sent to Kinston. Chuck Lofgren, as expected, was sent to Winter Haven (extended spring training) to "clear his head". No word on who fills the rotation spot left void in Kinston with Wright leaving, but a good bet would be Lake County lefty Ryan Miller getting the promotion.
Anyway, short-season...

Akron left-hander Chuck Lofgren has been put on the temporary inactive list, and may be out for awhile. Lofgren is not injured, but his psyche may be, so the Indians have shut him down temporarily and will continue to work with him behind the scenes to overcome some of the mental blocks which have plagued him this year. With Lofgren being shutdown, look for RHP Steven Wright to be promoted from Kinston...

Even though Lake County's game was suspended tonight, with Delmarva and Greensboro both losing their magic number decreased to 1. Lake County has clinched a tie for the division and just needs to win one of their remaining three games or have Greensboro and Delmarva lose one of their last two to win the division outright. Go Captains!

On Thursday, the Indians made a minor trade acquiring catcher Damaso Espino from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash considerations. Espino was assigned to Akron and will take over as the backup catcher since Armando Camacaro was moved up to Buffalo. This move was n response to Buffalo catcher Yamid Haad being called up to Cleveland. Espino has spent the season in a reserve role at AAA Omaha...

A Scout's Take On The Indians
One of the cool things about going around to the different affiliates to check in on the players and teams each month is not only do I get a chance to see the players and talk to them, but every visit I meet someone new outside the Indians organization. Some of these people I have remained in contact with, and in this piece one of those contacts is a major league scout I have spoken to on several occasions.

Adam Davis was officially activated at Lake County today, and he will be the primary catcher there as he learns his new position.
Kinston right-handed pitchers Steven Wright and Luis Perdomo were announced today as participants in the Carolina League All-Star game.
Go, Go Goleski!
