Second Thoughts Game #115: Indians 0, Reds 4
One would think we would know how this song and dance goes by now with the Indians here in 2014. Almost like clockwork, as soon as this team looks to be getting their act together to go on a hot streak, they fall right back to square one and need to build themselves up all over again. Around the Farm: August 7, 2014
James Ramsey did not get off to the best start in his Cleveland career, but he did his best to erase those first five games Thursday night. Meanwhile, farther south, Logan Vick continued his Carolina renaissance as he keeps benefiting from some good fortune after some wretched BABIP luck earlier in the season. Finally, even farther south and out to the west, Sicnarf Loopstok did his best to force a season's worth of performance into two games. Mahoning Valley Scrappers blanked by Brooklyn Cyclones
Sometimes a team runs into a hot pitcher and there is nothing that can they can do. That was the case on Thursday night at Eastwood Field as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers were held to just two hits as the fell 4-0 to the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Scrappers, who entered the game average eight hits a game over their past ten, were limited to just two singles.

Bullpen gives up 9 as Captains lose to Fort Wayne in extras
The Lake County Captains totaled 19 hits, but still lost to the Fort Wayne TinCaps in the bottom of the 10th after giving up four runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings. The top two Lake County hitters, Ivan Castillo and Clint Frazier, each had four hits and two RBIs in the loss. The Captains' bullpen combined to give up eight hits and nine runs in just 3.1 innings of relief.

Arias, Columbus Clippers shutout Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 7-0
The Columbus Clippers rode seven shutout innings of three-hit baseball from starter Gabriel Arias on their way to a 7-0 win against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Arias didn't walk a single batter and struck out three on the way to his sixth win of the season. Audy Ciriaco powered the offense with his 13th home run while James Ramsey added two hits, including another long ball.

Carolina Mudcats use 5-run 5th to beat Frederick Keys, 6-4
A five-run fifth inning powered the Carolina Mudcats to a 6-4 victory against the Frederick Keys Thursday at Harry Grove Stadium. Jeremy Lucas opened the scoring for Carolina in the visitor’s half of the fifth with his team-leading 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot to pull the Mudcats out of an early hole.

Akron RubberDucks beat New Britain for 4th straight win
Akron righthander Will Roberts scattered six hits and allowed just one run in seven innings Thursday night as the RubberDucks completed a three-game series sweep with a 3-1 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats at Canal Park. Roberts (11-11) continued building his new career-high in wins with his 11th of the season. It was also his second against the Rock Cats (55-61).

The Indians fell to the Reds 8-3 on Wednesday night. Danny Salazar struggled with the home run ball and was promptly optioned out to Columbus after the game. No matter how many times it is said, patience is really the name of the game when it comes to prospects. Even when it comes to a second round pick like Mitch Brown, jumping ship after fewer than two full professional seasons makes no sense. Brown may not be a finished product, but most prospects are not; otherwise they would be in the major leagues. Mahoning Valley Scrappers top Brooklyn Cyclones in 12 innings
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were forced to extra innings after the Brooklyn Cyclones even the game at one in the eighth inning, but ended up winning with a run in the bottom of the 12th inning. Mahoning Valley didn't have a single pitcher toss more than four innings, while just one of five pitchers tossed less than two. Greg Allen led the team with three hits.

Carolina Mudcats demolish Frederick Keys, 11-3, behind 14 hits
The Carolina Mudcats piled on 11 runs in a eight-run route of the Frederick Keys. Carolina Starter Ryan Merritt tossed six innings of two-run ball to earn his 11th win of the year. Merritt has recorded a 2.61 ERA so far this season. Eight of nine Mudcats hitters tallied at least one hit in the game, while five different Carolina players had multi-hit outings.

2-run 9th gives Akron RubberDucks walk off win against New Britain
The Akron RubberDucks scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, including a Jake Lowery solo home run, in order to beat the New Britain Rock Cats, 6-5, in walk off fashion. The RubberDucks totaled 12 hits as every starter tallied at least one hit in the game. After Joseph Colon tossed five solid innings, Enosil Tejada benefited from the late rally to pick up the win.

Lake County Captains blank West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-0
The Lake County Captains scattered three runs across the first seven innings as they beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 3-0. Both teams totaled seven hits, but Lake County made them count, led by Ivan Castillo who totaled three hits, including one double, and two runs scored. Mitch Brown got the win while Robbie Aviles recorded a hold and Trevor Frank tallied his 11th save.

Scouting the Indians 2014 Draft: Part 2
Over the course of the next few weeks the IBI's Tony Lastoria will continue to post pieces on all of the players that the Indians drafted and signed from the 2014 Draft. Mudcats Notebook: Lee handling transition to bullpen well
It was a difficult week for the Carolina Mudcats, as the team went just 1-5, closing the week on a five-game skid. With the difficult week, the team fell to 21-23 in the second half and 2.5 games behind Winston Salem in the Carolina League’s Southern Division.
