After Tim Fedroff tore up the minor leagues in 2012, many expected great things from the outfielder in 2013. Fedroff got off to a slow start, but that is never a reason to give up hope completely. Lately, the outfielder has been coming around and Wednesday night was no exception. After shortstop Juan Diaz slapped a single into the left and third baseman Nate Spears followed with a perfectly-placed bunt single, the Clippers looked poised keep the game alive. That was not the case however, as Columbus failed to execute and eventually fell to the Pawtucket Red Sox 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

As the Crushers hitters continue to gain more confidence, they’re starting to get a sense that no matter the score, they’re never out of a game. That’s something that couldn’t be said just a week ago, as the offense was still stuck in its early season funk, but it was certainly true today. The Crushers trailed 3-0 in entering the bottom of the seventh, but fought their way back to win 4-3 in ten innings behind catcher Emmanuel Quiles.

On a beautiful night at Eastwood Field, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers offense finally got rolling, albeit in unorthodox fashion, ultimately defeating the Jamestown Jammers 7-6. The Scrappers first run came in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Claudio Bautista following a double by Juan Romero. And that marked the end of normalcy while the Scrappers were at the plate, as miscues by Jamestown pitchers and fielders led to four additional runs.

Things couldn’t get any smoother for the Indians on Wednesday. Coming from behind to for the second-straight night, Cleveland (35-34) defeated the Royals 6-3 to take the three-game series over their division rivals. The victory moves the Tribe above the .500 mark for the first time since June 6. The Indians got yet another solid pitching performance ace Justin Masterson (9-5, 3.48 ERA) as the right-hander allowed just two runs on nine hits through 6 1/3 innings. The Akron Aeros (34-36) squared the ball up well Wednesday night, totaling 13 hits, but the team failed to score enough runs to overcome the Trenton Thunder (35-35), falling 5-3 at Canal Park. The game featured plenty of offense with Akron and Trenton combining for 25 hits, though both teams failed to actually get many runners across the plate.

On Wednesday the Indians announced that they have signed 5th round pick prep left-handed pitcher Sean Brady and 37th round pick second baseman Garrett Smith.

The Cleveland Indians have been about as consistent as badly cooked oatmeal. The team wins and loses in streaks that only Will Farrell running to the Quad would enjoy. The first half of the Lake County Captains 2013 season is officially in the books and so far, it’s been a tough go for the guys. The team posted a 23-44 record in the first half, the worst in the Midwest League. The three-day All-Star break may be much needed for the team, with the exception of Logan Vick and Louis Head, who were nominated to the All-Star Team and headed to Dayton on Tuesday. The signings have slowed down and the news has all but disappeared this week as remaining unsigned players either stand strong on their commitments to going to or going back to college while others are weighing their options. We are still 23 days away from the July 12th signing deadline and the Indians have only signed 14 players, so roughly 8-12 more players will be signed between now and then. COLUMBUS- After coming back from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game, the Columbus Clippers suffered a defensive meltdown in the ninth to hand the Pawtucket Red Sox a 3-2 win Tuesday.

The Crushers’ Tuesday night opponent was Normal. The first at-bat in the top of the ninth was anything but. CornBelters shortstop Patrick McKenna hit a routine fly ball to straight-away center, but Kevin Berard couldn’t find it and threw his arms up in disbelief as it landed well behind him, all the way back at the warning track. Despite this bizarre happening, the Crushers were able to hold on to win 4-3, as Dale Dickerson struck out the final two batters to earn his third save.
