Captains fall in extras 3-2, Dragons walk-off winners
The Dayton Dragons (36-32) avoided the sweep on the final day of the first half of the 2014 Midwest League season with a walk-off win over the Lake County Captains (27-43) 3-2 in 11 innings on Sunday. The Captains completed the first half with a 27-43 record and a 6-3 record in extra-innings.

Brown, Mudcats fall just short to Blue Rocks, 3-2
The Carolina Mudcats ended the first half of the season in losing fashion Sunday as they fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 3-2. Carolina’s bullpen struggles continued as the Blue Rocks rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal the finale of the four-game set.

RubberDucks blanked in series tiebreaker with Sea Dogs, 8-0
In front of a Father’s Day crowd at Canal Park, it was all Sea Dogs from the beginning to the end in the series tiebreaker on Sunday afternoon. Cody Anderson lost his fifth game of the season. The right-hander finished the day with six walks and three earned runs in just 4.2 IP.

Scrappers fall to Jammers in a pitcher’s duel, 4-1
What a difference one day can make in the game of baseball. One night after the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Jamestown Jammers put on an offensive display when each pounded out 14 hits, the combine to record 14 hits on Saturday night in a 4-1 pitching dominated Jammers victory.

Morimando shines, but Mudcat bats struggle in 5-1 loss
A brilliant performance from starter Shawn Morimando wasn't enough as the Carolina Mudcats fell 5-1 to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Saturday night. After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth, the Mudcats bullpen allowed six consecutive Blue Rock scores, which, ultimately, proved to be too much to overcome.

Captains pitching tames Dragons, 5-1
The Lake County Captains (27-42) tamed the Dayton Dragons (35-32) with a 5-1 victory behind a solid pitching performance. Lefty Luis Lugo (4-4,4.56) countered Dayton right-hander Sal Romano (4-5, 3.42) for the start. Lugo, who had a rough start to his season, was coming off a trio of impressive previous starts. That remained the case on Saturday.

Clippers extend streak, shutout RailRaiders, 7-0
The Columbus Clippers won their tenth straight game against the Scranton RailRiders Saturday night with a shutout victory. The Clippers 7-0 win came with the help of Zach McAllister who made his second rehab start in Columbus.

RubberDucks fall to Sea Dogs at home, 5-1
In front of the second consecutive sold out crowd of 8,107 at Canal Park on Military Appreciation Night, Portland’s Henry Owens bested the RubberDucks’ Duke von Schamann in a pitchers duel, leading his Sea Dogs to a 5-1 road victory. The RubberDucks (40-29) will try to win the rubber match with the Sea Dogs (43-23) tomorrow on Fathers Day.

Holt's adjustment to Columbus not taking long at all
When a player moves up the minor league ladder, it’s safe to assume that it might take them some time to acclimatize to each level. That isn’t the case with Columbus Clippers outfielder Tyler Holt. Ever since making his Triple-A debut on May 26, Holt has been a revelation. Grant Miller recently spoke with Holt about his transition and his goals for the rest of the season.

Second Thoughts Game #68: Cleveland 3, Boston 10
Cleveland fell to Boston 10-3 on Friday, in an affair that saw a fairly equal display of batters but was decided by the pitchers. While Boston right-hander John Lackey threw five strikeouts to one walk, Cleveland starter Justin Masterson lasted only two innings, walking four and striking out none. The IBI's John Grimm breaks down a possible source of Masterson's control problems on Friday and discusses the solid and altogether bizarre performance of Asdrubal Cabrera.

Ducks quack louder than Dogs bark
In a match-up between the Eastern League's two first place teams, Akron right-hander Will Roberts filled the role of stopper, hurling six innings and allowing just one run to lead Akron to a 6-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs in the series opener at Canal Park on Friday.

Mudcats split doubleheader with Blue Rocks
The Carolina Mudcats and Wilmington Blue Rocks split a doubleheader Friday after rain postponed the series’ opening game originally scheduled for Thursday. Wilmington shutout the Mudcats 6-0 in game one, but Carolina was able to salvage a split after an extra frame squeaking out a 4-3 win in game two.

Offense propels Scrappers to Opening Day win, 10-9
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers did not leave their offense in Arizona when they ended extended spring training. That offense was on display early and often on Opening Night as the Scrappers batted around the order and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on their way to a 10-9 victory.

Kime, Captains shutout Dragons, 5-0
The Lake County Captains (26-42) defeated the Dayton Dragons (35-31) Friday night at Fifth Third Field by the score of 5-0. After scoring early and often in the series finale Thursday night against the South Bend Silver Hawks, the Captains once again played from in front after they scored first in the top of the third inning.
