Mejia is developing into a special defender behind the plate
Very few players come along in the minor leagues who are viewed as special in one particular skill. Lots of players are above average or considered “plus” with a certain skill, but few have what is considered an elite bat or elite arm. The Indians happen to have a couple of players in their system with elite skills or intangibles, but one player who has really come onto the scene and really stands out is catcher Francisco Mejia.

Second Thoughts Game #92: White Sox 4, Indians 7
Making their way back to the .500 mark, the Cleveland Indians defeated the White Sox 7-4 in a largely offense-dominant affair. Turned on its head by a challenge in the fifth, Friday's win continued the momentum of Thursday's victory over the Yankees. The IBI's John Grimm concerns himself with the causes for Kluber's ineffective outing as well as the recent, limited renaissance of Nick Swisher, the lightning rod of the team.

Clippers snap skid, beat Indians 5-4
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Columbus Clippers (50-46) snapped a five game losing streak and ruined the 18th Anniversary celebration of Victory Field with a 5-4 win over the IL West leading Indianapolis Indians (53-43).

Scrappers late rally not enough to avoid sweep
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers came into Friday night’s game scuffling, having lost seven-straight. Despite a better overall performance, the Scrappers were unable to avoid dropping their eighth-straight game, 6-4, to the Hudson Valley Renegades. With the loss, the Scrappers have also now been swept in three-straight series.

Akron’s Tony Wolters legged out a fielder’s choice grounder in the top of the 10th inning,preventing a double play and allowing the go-ahead run to score in a 5-4 RubberDucks victory over the Trenton Thunder Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Arm and Hammer Park.

Tribe get second chance, beat White Sox 7-4
LeBron James decided on Friday afternoon that the Cavaliers would get a second chance for a championship, in what may be known as the biggest day in Cleveland sports history. Hours later, the Indians got a second chance of their own and made the most of it in a 7-4 beating of the White Sox that took them back to the .500 mark on the season.

Captains' offense explodes, route Loons 14-3
The Lake County Captains (11-9, 39-52) jumped to an early lead and then added runs throughout the game in a 14-3 win over the Great Lakes Loons (11-10, 45-46) on Friday night. The Captains achieved a season-high in runs with 14 with big nights from Clint Frazier and Nellie Rodriguez.

Gonzalez, Mudcats cruise past Dash, 9-2
An Erik Gonzalez grand slam propelled the Carolina Mudcats to a 9-2 win over the Winston-Salem Dash on Friday. The Mudcats threatened to open the scoring in the bottom of the first after Gonzalez’s one out base hit to right. The Carolina shortstop took big leads off first, noticeably perturbing Dash starter Angel Sanchez (1-1, 4.26).

Rookie Perez homers to cap Indians route over Yankees, 9-3
Roberto Perez will remember Thursday night for the rest of his life. Making his Major League debut, the 25 year-old catcher's dream came true in front of his very eyes. Leading New York 4-3 in the eighth, Indians bats exploded for five runs in the inning, capped off by Perez's first big league home run. The two-run shot increased the Tribe lead and they never looked back, routing the Yanks, 9-3. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps the win from the ballpark.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers nearly no-hit in loss to Hudson Valley
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers tallied just three hits while giving up 10 to the Hudson Valley Renegades in a 4-1 loss. Cameron Hill took his first loss of the season, despite giving up just one run through four innings, but Ramon Rodriguez allowed the majority of the damage with three runs in just two innings of work. Hudson Valley starter D.J. Slaton no-hit the Scrappers through six before exiting.

Lake County Captains hold on to beat Lansing Lugnuts, 5-4
The Lake County captains held on for a 5-4 win against the Lansing Lugnuts after giving up a run in four straight innings. Lake County's offense was sparked by a three-RBI home run from Nellie Rodriguez and multi-hit games from Ivan Castillo and Eric Haase. Caleb Hamrick picked up the win while Trevor Frank got his eighth save of the season.

Lindor, RubberDucks pile on 9 runs, 12 hits in route of Richmond
The Akron RubberDucks and Richmond Flying Squirrels were tied at two through six innings, but Akron piled on seven runs between the seventh and eighth to take a 9-2 victory. The RubberDucks totaled 12 hits, led by three from blue-chip prospect Francisco Lindor. Will Roberts picked up his ninth win of the season after seven solid innings on the mound.

Carolina Mudcats top Lynchburg Hillcats in 32-hit game
The Carolina Mudcats gave up 17 hits, but still managed to take a 11-6 win against the Lynchburg Hillcats behind 15 hits of their own. Every pitcher in the game gave up at least tow hits, with the two starters combining to give up 18 hits total. Five different Akron batters had multi-hit games, while Alex Monslave hit a seventh-inning grand slam.
