The Bowie Baysox (22-21) struck early against right-hander Brett Myers and the Akron Aeros (20-26) Wednesday night, coming away with a 7-5 victory and a chance at a four-game sweep Thursday morning at Canal Park. Pitching for the second time during his major league rehab assignment, Myers (0-1, 3.68 ERA, 6.88 FIP) managed to rebound after a rough first inning.

The Captains went 3-4 this past week but the losing record is misleading of the progress the team has made. The team’s offense has started to catch on and even the likes of Claudio Bautista and Dorssys Paulino, who have been miserable at the plate, have started to swing better bats. The Lansing Lugnuts (20-23) took an early lead and withheld a ninth-inning comeback by the Lake County Captains (15-28) to take the Wednesday morning game by a final score of 9-8 at Cooley Law School Stadium. Right-hander Luis DeJesus started his ninth game for the Captains and he opposed righty Ben White, who made his fifth start and tenth appearance for the Lugnuts.

Enough with the kids' gloves with regards to Trevor Bauer and Carlos Carrasco. The time to get these kids into the rotation is now, and not later. There was plenty of action around the Indians farm system Tuesday as Chun Chen continued to impress since his promotion to Triple-A Columbus while Richard Stock continued to turn some heads at Lake County. There have been plenty of good nights for the Cleveland Indians as of late but unfortunately Tuesday was not one of them. The Tribe mustered only three hits and fell 5-1 to the Detroit Tigers. Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Edwin Garcia bounced an infield single inches past the glove of J.D. Reichenbach to plate the winning run as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans escaped the Carolina Mudcats 3-2 in 11 innings on Tuesday night at TicketReturn.com Field. Carolina (15-29) dropped their 13th game decided by one run, and fell to 1-3 in extra-inning games.

Akron, OH – The Bowie Baysox continued to cause major problems for the Aeros this season, as the Aeros dropped their fourth straight game by a score of 13-2 Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Tuesday's game in Lansing had the Captains and the Lugnuts back and forth for runs throughout nine innings. The Captains started off with a run in the top of the second and the runs continued until the bottom of the eighth, with the Lugnuts driving in four runs to grab the 8-5 victory.

The Cleveland Indians announced on Tuesday afternoon that first baseman Nick Swisher has been placed on the paternity list and infielder Cord Phelps has been recalled from Triple-A Columbus.

COLUMBUS- If there were to be a motto for the Columbus Clippers' game against the Scranton/WB RailRiders Tuesday, it would be "bend but don't break." Led by a dazzling performance by right-hander Carlos Carrasco (2-0, 1.36 ERA), the Columbus pitching staff allowed 11 hits to the RailRiders but only gave up one run and emerged with a 5-1 victory.

Things just did not come together for the Akron Aeros over the past week as the team dropped five out of six games and fell to 20-24 on the season. This Akron team remains young and talented, though it lacks the consistency needed to rise to the top of the Eastern League standings. Despite the losing, there were plenty of exemplary performances, major league pitchers making cameo appearances, and an outfielder risking life and limb to make plays. The wins continue to roll in for the Cleveland Indians, who currently sport a 26-17 record and sit atop the American League Central. Jason Kipnis, Justin Masterson and Yan Gomes all had strong performances during the past week, and the Tribe currently brings plenty of momentum into its two-game series with the Detroit Tigers, which begins tonight.
