RubberDucks Notebook: Gonzalez brings "energy" to Akron
The RubberDucks (59-51) were swept by at Richmond in a battle of the Eastern League Western division that gave the Flying Squirrels some breathing room at the top. Akron continued their road trip by splitting a four-game set with the Reading Fightin Phils, and the team began a series with the Bowie Baysox on Monday night with a loss, 12-4. After an offseason of change, Cloyd finally feels comfort
Through his first eight appearances of the season, Triple-A Columbus starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd struggled to a 1-3 record with a 6.38 ERA. He led the league with eight home runs given up and opponents were hitting .330 off of him. Mahoning Valley Scrappers come back to beat State College
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers saved their best for last on their way to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against the State College Spikes. The Scrappers totaled just five hits, but managed a run in the sixth and two in the eighth to come back from a 2-0 deficit achieved in the third inning. Luis DeJesus got the win while Luke Eubank picked up the save.

Lake County Captains split doubleheader with Beloit Snappers
The Lake County Captains split a double header with the Beloit Snappers, aided by a furious comeback in game one. The Captains were down, 4-1, going into the bottom of the sixth inning in a seven-inning game when they scored four runs. Beloit answered with a four spot of its own before the Captains added another four runs in the final frame to take the win. Beloit won the second game 6-3.

Akron RubberDucks give up 20 hits in 12-4 loss to Bowie Baysox
The Akron RubberDucks started hot with three runs in the first inning, but fell off from there on their way to a 12-4 loss at the hands of the Bowie Baysox. Bowie tallied 20 hits in the game and scored 10 of 12 runs in a four-inning stretch, including five runs in the fourth. Shawn Morimando gave up seven hits in three innings while Adam Miller gave up six knocks in one frame of work.

Columbus Cippers lose late lead to Norfolk Tides, fall 6-5
The Columbus Clippers took a 5-4 lead into the eighth inning, but went on to lose to the Norfolk Tides after giving up runs in each of the final two frames. Norfolk tallied once in the eighth before a Christian Walker home run put the Tides ahead for good in the top of the ninth inning. Austin Adams took the loss while Robert Coello got the win for Norfolk.

Clippers Notebook: Lindor keeps things simple
It’s lonely at the top. Triple-A Columbus opened up last week by taking three of four in Louisville and found themselves alone in first for the first time since May 10. Tribe Happenings: To buy or sell, that is the question
The MLB trade deadline is only three days away. The Indians suffered through a tough 5-6 road trip to start the second half of the season, a trip that started with so much promise but ended with so much frustration. But even with the poor showing they are still only 3.5 games out of a playoff spot with two months to play. The IBI's Tony Lastoria provides his thoughts on if the Indians should by or sell, what they even have to sell, how Carlos Santana has been the best hitter in the AL for two months and more.

Second Thoughts Game #105: Indians 10, Royals 3
While the series in Detroit may have had a hangover effect on the Tribe as they traveled to Minnesota and Kansas City, they at least made sure to end a tough stretch on a high note before returning home and heading into an off-day. Sunday belonged to the Tribe and, more specifically Carlos Santana and Danny Salazar. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he gives his thoughts on the victory.

Fresh off a player hitting for the cycle just a week earlier, the Indians got another one in their system on Sunday from the hot bat of outfielder Jordan Smith. Mudcats drop sixth straight, lose to Nationals 6-5
A frustrating spell for the Carolina Mudcats continued Sunday as they fell to the Potomac Nationals 6-5 in eleven innings. Oscar Tejada’s walk off homer to left, his second long ball of the night, completed the series sweep for Potomac and handed the Mudcats their sixth consecutive defeat.

Clippers offense erupts, steamroll Tides 11-5
In literature, rain can sometimes have a transformative power. One heavy shower can change a character’s attributes, and even enhance some. The Columbus Clippers (58-52) were already playing well before the rain came on Sunday evening, but they celebrated the end of the downpour by scoring six runs in the seventh inning on their way to an 11-5 victory over the Norfolk Tides (50-59).

Smith hits for the cycle, RubberDucks split series with 6-4 win
Jordan Smith hit a go-ahead 2-run triple in the top of the ninth that completed the cycle and led his RubberDucks to a 6-4 win at Reading. Akron split the four-game series with the Fightin Phils. Both Smith and Bryson Myles hit solo homers in Sunday afternoon’s game. Seven RubberDucks had multi-hit performances in the win, including three-hit games from Erik Gonzalez and Bryan LaHair.

Scrappers rally falls short, lose to Spikes 8-5
After a lighting delay during the game the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fought ferociously against the State a College Spikes, but fell short at the very end of the game. The Scrappers fought hard but could not come up with the hits to produce runs against the Sikes and ended the game with an 8-5 loss.

Second Thoughts Game #104: Cleveland 5, Kansas City 7
Cleveland dropped the third game of a four-game series in Kansas City on Saturday, falling to the Royals 7-5 in a loss that both ensured a series loss and a road trip that will end under .500. Scoring, fueled by a five-run second for the Indians and five response runs in the next two innings by Kansas City. The IBI's John Grimm ponders both the state of the rotation going forward as well as the return of Carlos Santana.
