The struggles continued for the Cleveland Indians on Monday as Joey Votto hit a tie-breaking, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Tribe 4-2 in the first game of two at Great American Ballpark. ERIE- It was a battle of the offenses Monday evening when the Akron Aeros faced the Erie SeaWolves for the final game of the four-game series. It was a fight all the way through the tenth inning, but Erie would ultimately come out on top, winning 9-8.
The Whitecaps swept the Captains on Monday, making the 5-3 loss the seventh consecutive loss for Lake County. The Captains struggled most of the game, but came back for a fight in the bottom of the eighth and ninth, and scored all three of their runs within those two innings.
Canal Park received a makeover this past offseason with a brand new state-of-the-art video scoreboard, and Tyler Holt has put the video screen to good use. The Double-A Akron outfielder is a human highlight reel in the outfield crashing into walls and diving for balls, and it is that defensive ability and all out approach that has people taking notice.
It was a rough week for the Cleveland Indians as the team went 2-5 and lost several games that they probably should have won. The Indians are now 27-22 and trail the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. The Tribe is now in desperate need of a victory thanks to its poor performance over the past week, and the team will look to turn things around beginning today. Zebulon, N.C. – The Carolina Mudcats allowed eight runs in a disastrous seventh inning as the Winston-Salem Dash claimed the finale of weekend series with an 11-4 win on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 5,968 at Five County Stadium watched the Dash end Carolina’s three-game winning streak at home.

ERIE- The Erie SeaWolves devastated the Akron Aeros 7-2 at Jerry Uht Park Sunday. Akron’s offense was unable to make up for the deficit caused by ineffective pitching, and Sunday quickly turned into a repeat performance of Saturday’s match up by both offenses.
The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness and recalled left-handed pitcher Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus.
River City completed a three game series sweep of Lake Erie Sunday night in Missouri with a 2-1 victory over the Crushers. Despite getting another solid performance from its starting pitching, the Crushers bats hit, but could not come up with runs.
The Indians organization certainly didn't head into Memorial Day on Monday with a positive vibe on Sunday. Every team, from Lake County to Cleveland fell into the losing column on Sunday afternoon. For eight innings, the Indians looked as though they could escape Boston with a series split. Then, the top of the ninth inning came along as did closer Chris Perez. It wasn’t the long ball that hurt Pure Rage on Sunday, but rather the strike zone. Perez just couldn’t find any of the four corners of the strike zone, blowing both the save and the game for Cleveland. The Red Sox scored four runs off the closer in the inning, in route to a devastating 6-5 loss for the Tribe.
The Indians and their fans have a growing concern about the lack of command and vellocity from top flight setup man Vinnie Pestano. Those problems came to the surface on Saturday when he was very ineffective in a blown save, and Tony touches on his issues.
