It's official. The lights above Progressive Field will not shine bright come October. But for one more night on Friday, Corey Kluber shined the brightest. Hurling eight dominant innings of shutout baseball, Kluber led the Indians in the series opener past Tampa Bay for a 1-0 victory. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps the win from the ballpark.

One win down...three to go. And then maybe, just maybe by some baseball miracle, the Indians will sniff the cool air of October. But that's for Oakland and Kansas City to decide. At least for now, the Tribe is still in the hunt for the postseason after a huge 6-4 win over the Royals Wednesday night. You can't win if you can't score. Or can you? At least in one game on Monday, the Indians did just that. Making up the suspended game with the Royals originally played at Kaufmann Stadium back on August 31, the Tribe edged their division rivals for a 4-3 win. However, it was Monday's regularly scheduled game with K.C. that left a bad taste and lasting impact when the night was over.

If Saturday was a nightmare for Bryan Shaw, Sunday became a horrific tragedy. Leading 3-2 in the seventh, the roar of the Tigers lineup became too much for both Shaw and the Indians for the second straight day. Backed by more timely hits, the Tigers swept Cleveland out of Motown in the series finale, by a 6-4 defeat at Comerica Park. Maybe it was a day off they needed after all. After rain forced the Indians and Twins to play a traditional doubleheader Thursday, the Tribe came out on top twice on a cool afternoon at Progressive Field, netting an afternoon sweep. Both ballgames, while different, were centered on the same recipe for success with more dominant starting pitching. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps a good day for the Wahoos at the ballpark.

For a season that has endured countless ups and downs, there has been one constant that has defined the Indians all year long. Pitching. Saturday night at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario was no different. Tossing his third complete game victory of the season, Corey Kluber and the Tribe edged the White Sox, 3-1 to win their second straight over Chicago in the series. Six weeks ago Danny Salazar was wearing a Columbus Clippers uniform, pitching in Triple-A after a disappointing first two months of the season in the big leagues. He's since returned to the majors and hasn't missed a beat. Wednesday night against Detroit proved to be the right-hander's best start yet, hurling his first complete game shutout to help the Indians blank their division rivals, 7-0. If the Indians want to play in October again, the road to another potential playoff spot begins and ends with only one thing: Pitching. Starting pitching was the name of the game for the second day in a row Sunday, as the Tribe edged Houston, 3-1 to win the three-game series. The Indians have 99 problems, and all of them are errors. Knotted in a 1-1 tie with Houston in the ninth, two critical defensive errors by the Tribe cost them the series opener. Held to just one run on two hits all night, the Astros went onto score four runs in the inning, leading to a 5-1 victory. Ubaldo Jimenez was greeted well by his former club in his return trip to Progressive Field. The Orioles starter wouldn't even escape the fifth inning. Tribe hitters embraced Jimenez scoring six earned runs on five hits against him in just 4 1/3 innings Saturday, leading to an easy 6-0 shutout. The IBI's 2014 Indians Top 50 Prospect countdown continues with infielder Jose Ramirez.
