The International Signing Period kicked off on Tuesday. As with every year it brings a high-paced amount of signings that have been agreed on for weeks or months, and also brings with it a lot of questions as many don't understand how it works. The IBI's Jeff Ellis takes a look at how the system works, the problems that have brought to the forefront, and reviews and provides an update on each of the top six players the Indians have signed.

The Indians have been quite busy on the international signing front over the past month plus. Back in early June the Indians signed shortstop Yu Chen-Chang out of Taiwan, followed that up with two splashes at the start of the International Signing Period on July 2nd by inking shortstop Willy Castro and outfielder Junior Soto out of the Dominican Republic, and then just a few days ago came to terms on Cuban right-handed pitcher Leandro Linares. The World Baseball Classic came to a close on Tuesday night when the Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 to win the WBC crown. The Indians featured five active players, and with the tournament over the IBI's Kevin Dean reviews the performances by all five players in what was really an exciting, well played tournament.

Every international sports tournament has it: The Group of Death. A group so evenly matched and so stacked with talent from top to bottom that not even the most supremely talented seleccion sucked into its unforgiving vortex can consider themselves assured of advancement. That's what Team USA found themselves in over the weekend in their opening round of play, but survived and have moved on to the second round in Miami.

The International Signing Period kicked up yesterday July 2nd, and while a lot of teams expected the signings to come at a slower pace this year that has not really been the case so far as many high profile players have already agreed to terms on deals.
