Orbiting Cleveland: What to do with Cabrera?
The Indians wasted little time starting their offseason yesterday as the team quickly parted ways with closer Chris Perez. So, what's next for the Tribe during the Hot Stove season? One of the most interesting storylines to follow will be what the Indians ultimately decide to do with shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera. The switch-hitter is coming off a rough 2013 campaign, and could now be the time to deal him? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he opines on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Jimenez voids option and is now a free agent
The Indians announced today that they have exercised the 2014 club option ($8 million) on right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. Because of the parameters of his contract where if he were traded, his 2014 club option turned into a mutual option when he was traded from the Rockies to the Indians in July of 2011. As a result, Jimenez voided the contract and is now a free agent.

The hot stove season begins at the Corner of Carnegie & Ontario
The Cleveland Indians embark on an important offseason today, as they look to build upon their incredulous journey from baseball obscurity to the playoffs in 2013. While many are focusing on the potential free agents and trade candidates out of the gate, the reality is that the Indians won't make any major moves until their own free agents are addressed. Do the Indians have their RubberDucks in row, and will they make the right moves? Join Jim Pete at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, as we take a close look.

Indians release Perez, resign Giambi, make trade for Hynes
The Cleveland Indians today announced a flurry of moves on the first official day of the 2013-2014 offseason. The biggest move was the announcement that right-handed pitcher Chris Perez was given his unconditional release, but they also announced a trade with the Padres for lefty Colt Hynes and resigned Jason Giambi to a minor league deal.

2013 40-man roster review: Who do the Indians remove?
Since the Indians season ended four weeks ago they have been discussing the makeup of their roster for next season with where they need to subtract, where they need to add, what they need to modify, and where they need to get stronger. Tony takes a deeper look into how that process works and explains some of the reasoning behind moves at this time of the year, and he also looks at all 44 players on the 40-man roster and predicts who he thinks are no longer on it by the November 20th roster deadline.

Trend Spotting: A look at Danny Salazar’s 2013 season
Danny Salazar’s development has been profiled in great depth throughout this site over the past two years, yet his ascendancy feels almost unreal. Thus, the IBI's Michael Hattery spends the majority of his Trend Spotting piece this week discussing Salazar’s first season in the big leagues and what it means about his future. Do the Indians have an ace in waiting or has he already arrived?

Swinging for the Fences: The case for bringing back Giambi
Veteran DH Jason Giambi has expressed a desire to play next year and return to the Indians. As he’ll be blowing out 43 candles on his birthday cake next season and not surprisingly is no longer putting up the same MVP-type numbers he did in his storied career, let alone even playing on a regular basis, why should Chris Antonetti re-up his deal for 2014? The IBI's Jake Dungan explains in his new weekly feature Swinging for the Fences.

Winter Ball Notebook: Aguilar impressive early

So far, Jesus Aguilar has gotten off to a torrid start in the VWL while Tyler Naquin has been impressive in the AFL. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on these performances and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

Possible trade options that can help the Indians lineup
In part one of this piece on Thursday, the IBI's Andy Nichols discussed possible free agent targets the Indians may look to add in order to help the offense. Today, in part two, he divulges into potential trade targets. This is always a tricky undertaking, as it's hard to know which players will be made available by their teams, but he provides a list of bats that he believes could be available or that he would target.

Orbiting Cleveland: Is Corey Hart a fit?
We're just a short ways away from the MLB's Hot Stove season kicking into full swing. Indians fans are now free to speculate as to who the team will look to acquire this offseason. Of all the names out there, one of the most appealing is longtime Milwaukee Brewer Corey Hart. Hart missed the entire 2013 season with knee injuries, but could a healthy Hart be a good fit in Cleveland in 2014? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he tackles that question in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Possible free agent options that can help the Indians lineup
With the World Series underway the offseason is close to officially beginning, so it is time to start looking at the free agent and trade options the Indians might pursue to improve their team. While the Indians have decisions to make on some outgoing players, another big decision they need to make is what bat(s) they can bring in to help the middle of the lineup. In this two part series, the IBI's Andy Nichols explores possible targets the Indians may have their eyes on this winter, and part one focuses on this offseason’s free agent class.

Changes on tap in the Indians bullpen
A lot of the early offseason discussion has revolved around what the Indians are going to do with their starting rotation or how they can improve their lineup. But one lesser talked about item of concern is the upcoming renovation in the bullpen with Joe Smith and Matt Albers hitting free agency and Chris Perez likely being non-tendered. The IBI's Michael Goodman takes a look at what approach the Indians should take to fill their bullpen needs for 2014.
