The struggles continued for the Cleveland Indians on Monday as Joey Votto hit a tie-breaking, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Tribe 4-2 in the first game of two at Great American Ballpark. The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness and recalled left-handed pitcher Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus.

For eight innings, the Indians looked as though they could escape Boston with a series split. Then, the top of the ninth inning came along as did closer Chris Perez. It wasn’t the long ball that hurt Pure Rage on Sunday, but rather the strike zone.
