Winter Ball Notebook: Top pitching performances
It's been rather quiet in winter ball for the Indians as most players' stints in the winter leagues have come to an end. However, there were still a handful of noteworthy performances this season, both from pitchers as well as hitters. This week, join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he recaps the top pitching performances from this past winter season...

MLB News and Notes: Indians make some minor moves
Although there was nothing major, there was still plenty of news around the MLB on Monday. In this MLB News and Notes segment, the IBI's Andy Nichols will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. Today's piece focuses on a couple of Minor League signings for the Tribe, the Reds attempt to extend Homer Bailey, and more.

Tribe Happenings: Payroll commitments have limited the Indians
With the new year here and the 2014 season just weeks away, and before we know it the trucks will be leaving Cleveland for spring training in Goodyear. As we really dig in for some cold weather in the Cleveland area, some may say the Indians offseason has been just as frigid with the lack of many moves. The IBI's Tony Lastoria talks about the difference between last year's spending spree and this year's closed checkbook, explains the true reason why teams don't want to lose a first round pick for a "qualified" free agent and much more.

History's warning signs for Trevor Bauer's future
When general manager Chris Antonetti acquired Trevor Bauer last offseason, some -- including me -- heralded the right-hander as the present and future ace of the Cleveland rotation. Clearly that did not go according to plan as Bauer struggled from the get-go. Though there is still hope for Bauer, Jim Piascik dove into Bauer's stats to see how other pitchers with similar seasons fared in the years ahead, giving a possible glimpse into what the future holds for the right-hander.

IBI Power Poll: Should the Indians sign Ubaldo Jimenez?
The Cleveland Indians roster looks fairly complete, but there are still question-marks surrounding the starting rotation. Will the current rotation options of Justin Masterson, Zach McAllister, Corey Kluber, Danny Salazar, Shaun Marcum, Carlos Carrasco, Josh Tomlin and Trevor Bauer be enough, or are the Indians planning on making a splash by re-signing Ubaldo Jimenez, once the market spits him back out. Join IBI's Jim Pete with his first power poll of 2014.

In this MLB News and Notes segment, the IBI's Andy Nichols will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. Today's piece focuses on Joel Hanrahan's return from injury, San Diego's dilemma with Chase Headley, and more.

The Ultimate Indians Draft: Rounds 20-11
The Ultimate Indians Draft continues on with the best picks of all time for the Indians in rounds 20 to 11. This is a series of articles here at the IBI where draft guru Jeff Ellis is going through all of the Indians June drafts in their history and determining the best picks they have made round by round. This is an interesting overview of their June draft history, and in some ways, a trip down memory lane of some draft successes (and failures).

Orbiting Cleveland: The rotation has a huge hole
In just over a month, pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training, but it appears as if the Cleveland Indians still have a big hole to fill. While four members of the starting rotation are decided, the Tribe still has no idea who will fill the fifth role. Also, the internal options seem to be a tad underwhelming. Could one of them fill the spot? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he discusses in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Positive resolutions at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario
The New Year is upon us here at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, and it's time to take a look at some 2014 resolutions. The great thing about resolutions is that they sound so good at the beginning of January, but are often long forgotten by the beginning of February. Jim pulls in fellow columnist to discuss their thoughts on the 2014 season, and wonder aloud what the "Final Resolution" may be.

Get Lucky: The 2013 Cleveland Indians year-in-review
What Cleveland fan is not happy about the way 2013 turned out? Going from a 68-win mess in 2012 to a playoff-bound 92-win team in 2013 was nothing short of amazing. A series of great moves in the offseason spurred the turnaround, but with any change that big, a little luck comes into play. Last year, Jim Piascik used Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon to recap 2012. This year, he's went modern with Rolling Stone's #1 single of the year, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

Swinging for the Fences: New Year's resolutions
It's a new year, a time when goals and resolutions are made. And while some are planning a new exercise and weight-loss regimen or aiming to get that big promotion at work, Terry Francona and his crew at Progressive Field are setting their sights higher as they hope to push their way to the next level as a ball-club coming off a year where they got a brief taste of postseason play. The IBI's Jake Dungan lists goals for the Tribe in 2014. Quintessential

Winter Ball Notebook: Is the Santana third base experiment over?
The DWL playoffs began this past week, and to the surprise of many, the Indians' Carlos Santana was a participant. Santana had been manning the hot corner for Leones del Escogido this winter, but it now appears as if that has changed. Midway through the first playoff game, Santana was moved from third base to first base, and he has remained there ever since. Could it be that the Carlos Santana third base experiment is coming to an end? Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he touches on that and more in the latest edition of the Winter Ball Notebook.

The Winter Ball Experience
The winter leagues in the Latin American countries provide an opportunity for players to play in more games and for Latin American players to play baseball in their home country. It gives some upper level minor league players a stage to showcase their talents and other players a chance to make up lost innings or at bats. In a piece that originally posted this time two years ago, the IBI's Tony Lastoria re-posts this piece with a few updates on the Winter Ball Experience for American players.

IBI Power Poll: Is Danny Salazar elite?
The Cleveland Indians have been protecting Danny Salazar over the years since he has returned from Tommy John surgery. Many questioned why the Front Office has handled him with such kid gloves for such a long period, that is, until he joined the Indians in August and started throwing 100 MPH. Join Jim Pete as he tackles this week's power poll: Will Danny Salazar be a top-of-the-rotation ace, or will he regress?

Looking at Danny Salazar's historical season
Before the 2013 season, the last impact starting pitcher Cleveland's farm system produced was Roberto Hernandez way back in 2007. Every elite-level starting pitcher since then was acquired from outside of the organization. That all changed in 2013 when Danny Salazar burst onto the scene. What Salazar did in his 10 regular season starts was nothing short of amazing. Jim Piascik delves into the numbers to show you just how amazing and what to expect from the right-hander in 2014.
