Carlos Santana is the most underappreciated Cleveland sports athlete the IBI's Jeff Ellis has seen in his life time. The amount of people who want him sent out of town or that think he is a terrible disappointment never ceases to amaze Jeff. He comes up with a few theories as to why he is disliked by so many and also puts to bed several myths about him and shows why he is arguably he most valuable bat in the Indians lineup.

On October 6th of last year the Indians hired Terry Francona to be their manager and thus began the start of an amazing revival for an organization on life support to one that is heading in the right direction. They had a good year, but now comes the hard part. Tony talks about their philosophy change and how they need to take the next step this offseason, how Francona had such a big effect on the team, and why he thinks the Indians need to pull out all the stops to resign Jimenez and Kazmir.

Coming in to the 2013 season the Indians pitching staff had more questions than it did answers. One of the main questions going in was “which Justin Masterson are we going to see?” After a 2012 season that saw Masterson struggle, he came back in 2013 and had a stellar season. The IBI's Matt Rose takes a deeper look at why Masterson had so much success this past season and what his future may hold.

With the Indians now out of playoffs, Tribe fans are all turning their attention to one thing: free agency. The Indians as an organization have a number of notable free agents that they may want to resign, and perhaps none are bigger than right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez. After a brilliant second half, Jimenez is sure to be in for a hefty raise this offseason. So how does one pit a player from the 1940's against a star from the 1920's or 1990's and how do you have a pitcher compete with an outfielder? Well you can't - at least not in real life - but you can in the fantasy world of OOTP baseball. And that's what IBI history buff Rick Lamborn did to determine the best Indians player of all time with a gigantic 128-player tournament. He explains the tournament and previews the first round in his latest....

Playoff baseball returned to Cleveland this year as Terry Francona and company surged to a 92-70 record and a berth in the wild card playoff game. That berth makes 2013 a success for Cleveland, even though the team lost in the one-game playoff. Given where this team was at the end of last year, the turnaround is just tremendous. As I do at the end of every year, here is part two of me ranking all 49 players who logged time for the big league club in 2013.

The Indians completed a terrific season last week that culminated in a 4-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card Game. It's astonishing to think of the progress that has been made in one year under Terry Francona as the Tribe went from 68 to 94 wins. The 2013 season was filled with numerous ups and downs for the team, but everything is pretty much looking up for the future. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he looks back at the year that was in the IBI staple Notes From the Wigwam.

The Cleveland Indians are facing an extremely difficult offseason in which both Ubaldo Jimenez and Scott Kazmir are entering free agency. Obviously, both pitchers rounded into a form that is reminiscent of their dominant years with both Colorado and Tampa Bay. The question is, do you sign both pitchers, or do you have to temper your offers based on the simple fact that Justin Masterson is a free agent in 2014? Join Jim Pete for this week's power poll.

As the Indians season comes to an end, they find themselves in an enviable position when it comes to their depth at catcher. Coming into this season the Indians seemed to be set for the foreseeable future behind the plate with the heavy hitting Carlos Santana and looked to be in good shape at one of the most important positions on the diamond. Then, without warning, Yan Gomes happened. IBI newcomer Matt Rose opines in his debut piece about how valuable Gomes was in 2013 and how the catching situation is even more enviable.

The Cleveland Indians' season came to an end Wednesday after the team was defeated 4-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays. While the loss was a tough one to sour, it's important to not discount the immense improvement made by the Indians in Terry Francona's first season as manager. It appears as if the foundation is now set for this team to be a contender for years to come. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he offers his perspective on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

When a team goes from a 94 loss season to a 92 win season there are going to be a collection of production increases at multiple positions. Today, in brevity the IBI's Michael Hattery looks at the positional production team wide using surface statistics to show the difference from 2012 to 2013. This is a great read and shows how the Indians made marked improvement in 2013 and where they can look for creative opportunities to improve in 2014.
