Tribe Happenings: There is a lot of blame to pass around
The Indians funk over the last two weeks has ruined their playoff hopes. They are still mathematically alive, but barring a miracle they are now in preparation mode for next season. Now that the season looks to be over, the immediate reaction is to look back at what went wrong and what prevented them from having the success that many wanted from them this season. The IBI's Tony Lastoria looks at who is to blame for the Indians struggles this season and he also touches on Michael Brantley's power outage in the second half, what he wants to see the rest of the way, and more.

Second Thoughts Game #149: Indians 1, Astros 3
The last thing the Indians could have afforded was going 2-5 last week and getting swept by the Tigers in the process. For all intents and purposes, the Indians playoff hopes are over. Still, a four game stretch against the Astros seemed promising for the team to get back to their winning ways....but the offense continued to frustrate on Monday and they lost 3-1. The IBI's Michael Goodman provides his second thoughts on the game...

Indians should target Adrian Beltre in the offseason
The IBI's Jeff Ellis is seeing a lot of talk of what will happen for the Indians next year. To him this season was always viewed as a bit of a bridge year, and he feels they found some things from within with the starting rotation and lineup. The question now is what do the Indians do in the offseason to improve? He puts forth an idea to go after Adrian Beltre in a trade, a move he believes improves the Indians lineup but the defense as well. He explains how such a deal gets done in his latest...

Second Thoughts Game #147: Indians 4, Tigers 6
Once again, the Tribe had a lead in the latter portion of the game, but a clearly tired bullpen was unable to hold the potent Tiger lineup in check as J.D. Martinez and Ian Kinsler inflicted most of the damage in the season series finale between Cleveland and Detroit. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he gives his thoughts on the game and whether the team's playoff hopes are still alive.

Shaw's struggles continue; Indians fall to Detroit, 6-4
If Saturday was a nightmare for Bryan Shaw, Sunday became a horrific tragedy. Leading 3-2 in the seventh, the roar of the Tigers lineup became too much for both Shaw and the Indians for the second straight day. Backed by more timely hits, the Tigers swept Cleveland out of Motown in the series finale, by a 6-4 defeat at Comerica Park. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps a frustrating series from Detroit.

Avila homer sends Tigers over Indians, 5-4
Clinging to a 4-3 lead with two outs in the eighth, Detroit's Alex Avila sent Cleveland to their most crushing defeat with one swing of the bat. The Tigers catcher connected on what became a game-winning two-run homer off Bryan Shaw, sending the Tribe to a 5-4 loss Saturday night. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps another frustrating game from Comerica Park.

Second Thoughts Game #146: Indians 2, Tigers 7
The Indians were unable to capitalize against David Price early, J.D. Martinez struck another big blow and the Tigers pulled away late in the first game of an important three game series. The price for a spot in the postseason continues to climb for the wavering Indians. Opening a crucial three-game series with division rival Detroit, Cleveland's woes offensively continued at Comerica Park Friday night. Behind a stellar start from lefty David Price, Tigers bats stole the show late, leading them to a 7-1 victory. Join IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps the game from Motown.

Second Thoughts Game #144-145: Indians sweep twin bill
As America took time to reflect on the events of 13 years ago, the Indians and Twins played, fittingly, a twin-bill at Progressive Field and it was the Tribe who came out on top in both matchups thanks to strong pitching and enough offense to dispense of the Twins and give Cleveland a series win ahead of a key matchup against the Tigers. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he recaps both games.

Pitching helps Indians sweep doubleheader with Twins
Maybe it was a day off they needed after all. After rain forced the Indians and Twins to play a traditional doubleheader Thursday, the Tribe came out on top twice on a cool afternoon at Progressive Field, netting an afternoon sweep. Both ballgames, while different, were centered on the same recipe for success with more dominant starting pitching. Join IBI Indians beat reporter Jim Berdysz as he recaps a good day for the Wahoos at the ballpark.

Storylines: Royals regain sole possession of first in AL Central
It was a big night in the AL Central on Wednesday as the Royals and Tigers squared off for the final time in their three game series. The Tigers took the first two games on Monday and Tuesday, but behind the pitching of James Shields on Wednesday were able to wrestle away control of first place from the Tigers. Second Thoughts Game #143: Twins 4, Indians 3
Trevor Bauer was dominant on Tuesday night going eight strong innings, but a misstep to four consecutive batters in the fourth was the difference in the game. In the end the Indians were unable to once again put together any offense and they lost 4-3. The IBI's Michael Rich steps in and provides his second thoughts on a disappointing loss for the Indians...

Huge four-run fourth inning sends Twins over Indians, 4-3
They say baseball is a game of inches. Give Michael Brantley an extra inch on a sliding defensive play, and Trevor Bauer may have had himself a shutout Tuesday. Instead, the farther into September it gets, the farther it seems the Indians are fading out of contention. Opening up a three-game series with the last place Minnesota Twins, Cleveland was handed a tough 4-3 loss Tuesday night, thanks to a game changing fourth inning.

Second Thoughts Game #142: Angels 12, Indians 3
For four innings it looked like the Indians were in store for yet another nail-biter. Danny Salazar was cruising, and the Indians offense wasn’t generating much against Jered Weaver. Then it all unraveled. Salazar was hit hard in the fifth inning, giving up two home runs and six runs before being replaced by Zach McAllister – an offensive explosion from the Angels that essentially put this game out of reach. The IBI's Michael Goodman provides his second thoughts on the game...

Salazar struggles; Angles rout Tribe, 12-3
Things were far from normal for the Indians Monday afternoon at Progressive Field. Well, at least on the pitching side of things. Making up a rained out game initially scheduled for June 18 against the first place L.A. Angles, Tribe starter Danny Salazar was tagged for six runs on eight hits through 4 2/3 innings, as the Wahoos fell to the Halos, 12-3.

Tribe Happenings: It's been a good transition year for Indians
Even coming off of a successful 2013 season where they made the playoffs, the Indians came into 2014 in somewhat of a transition year with a lot of question marks that needed to be answered. With three weeks left in the season, it is safe to say that the Indians answered a lot of those question marks and have set themselves up well for the next few seasons. The IBI's Tony Lastoria talks about the strides they have made from a team and roster perspective, their chances of making the playoffs, why no Lindor is a good thing, gripes about Kipnis hitting fifth, and more...
