Minor Happenings: Ramirez earns high praise from Indians
The minor league season may be over, but there is no end in sight for Minor Happenings or the minor league coverage here on the IPI. In this week’s Minor Happenings, Tony takes a look at the emergence of Low-A Lake County second baseman Jose Ramirez and what kind of prospect he really is, the strong finish from Lake County catcher Jake Lowery, and the good year but unfortunate injury to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley lefty Geoff Davenport. As always, he has lots of quotes on players like Matt Langwell, Carlos Moncrief, Matt Packer and others provided by the front office, and lots more.

Nick Hamilton: Grown up dreams
Born and raised an Indians fan in Avon Lake, OH, Nick Hamilton now has one of the most unique perspectives of the Indians. Not only is he a diehard fan of the team and was drafted by the team he loves, but his father is the Voice of the Indians. Sean Mahon recently sat down with Hamilton out in Arizona and talked about his love of the Indians, his perseverance overcoming obstacles on and off the diamond, and his dreams.

On the Lighter Side: Getting to know your 2012 AZL Indians
The Arizona League is a different brand of baseball; there are no TV cameras catching scene by scene baseball, neither a peanut nor crackerjack man, no beer vendors and rarely even a grand stand of seats. The weather is hot, dry and some games are so quiet, you can hear yourself think. Fans rarely get a chance to catch the personalities of the players there since they are so far removed from "coverage", but Sean Mahon recently talked to a bunch of the players for a light Q&A to get to know them better.

In today’s Minor Happenings, Tony looks at the very strong season that High-A Carolina third baseman Giovanny Urshela has had and the jump he has made as a prospect. He also touches on the season that Carolina right-handed pitcher Jordan Cooper has had and what it may mean for his future, provides lots of comments from Ross Atkins on some of their rising young Latin American stars, and provides injury updates and more on players like Lars Anderson, Adam Abraham, Carlos Moncrief, Tyler Naquin, and others.t

AZL Indians fall in season finale, 8-1
The AZL Indians ended their season with a thud as they played an uninspired game against the visiting Brewers and lost 8-1. The Indians got on the board in the first inning as shortstop Jairo Kelly drew a one out walk and then stole second for his third steal of the season. He later scored on a one our single to left by catcher Nelson Rodriguez.

AZL Tribe pounds Mariners, 13-7
The AZL Indians have lost several of their top players to promotions the past week, but that did not look to be the case last night as they pounded the AZL Mariners 13-7 last night. They scored 11 combined runs in the sixth through eighth innings to come back and stun the Mariners.

Arizona Rookie League Notebook: 8/19/12 - 8/25/12
The rookie level Arizona League Indians wrap up their season this week, and what a fun year it has been to watch the young Indians with so much young talent, arguably the most the Indians have had at the rookie level in well over a decade. Sean Mahon chimes in with another notebook and has updates and scouting notes on the performances of several players such as Dillon Howard, Caleb Hamrick, Jorge Martine, Claudio Bautista, Felix Sterling and more.

Big fourth inning propels AZL Indians to win
The AZL Indians beat the AZL Reds on Sunday night by a score of 8-6, thanks to a key five-run fourth inning that paved the way to victory. Right-hander Dylan Baker got the start for the Indians and was shaky in the early going allowing three first inning runs on three hits, a walk, wild pitch, passed ball and error.

Brown, Lovegrove Look Great As AZL Indians Split Doubleheader
The AZL Indians split a doubleheader with the AZL Dodgers last night, winning the first game 4-2 and dropping the second 3-1. Pitching was the name of the game for the Indians, as the starters were both high draft picks for the Tribe in the 2012 draft (2nd round pick Mitch Brown and 3rd round pick Kieran Lovegrove).

IPI Hot List: 2012 Week 20
Tony chimes in with a new edition of the IPI Hot List, a piece that will become a weekly staple next season and ranks the top 20 performances in the Indians' system from the past seven days. In no way does it rank or list players based on value; it is simply a snapshot of the top 20 performances from the past week without any discrimination regarding whether a player is a prospect or not. In this week's list Tony provides insight and updates on players like Cord Phelps, Danny Salazar, Dorssys Paulino, Mitch Brown, Mason Radeke, Rob Nixon, Ronny Rodriguez, David Huff, Anthony Santander, and lots of others.
