A struggling Robel Garcia provided a walk-off victory, as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers would split their series with a dramatic 2-1 victory on Sunday Night. Garcia had already been demoted from Lake County, and has been struggling in Mahoning before his walk-off hit.

The Scrapper offense probably wishes they could have stayed a few extra nights in Jamestown. After collecting 15 hits in Friday’s twin bill against the Jammers in Jamestown, they only collected two hits at Eastwood Field in a 5-2 loss Saturday night.

After rain forced the suspension of Thursday’s game, the Scrappers and Jammers played two on Friday. The Scrappers were able to win the second game 2-1, but blew a 6-3 lead they carried over in the first game, as the lost 9-7 and settled for a split.

The short season Single-A Mahoning Valley Scrappers went 3-3 this week, staying right at .500 as the season rages on. The offense has picked up, the starters have looked solid, so what's the problem? The Scrappers traveled to Jamestown seeking to make the most of their short two game road trip. They got off to a good start Thursday night, jumping out to a 6-3 lead early on against the Jammers. The weather failed to cooperate, however, as heavy rain forced the game to be suspended after just three innings of play.

In today’s Minor Happenings, Tony takes a look at the no-hitter by lefty Giovanni Soto and the development he has made this year as a prospect, the strides Jordan Smith has made both offensively and defensively, he runs through another infirmary report with several updates on some of the walking wounded in the system, talks with the Indians front office about players at several different levels in the system, and tons more.

The Scrappers and Spikes engaged in high-scoring affair Wednesday night, with the Spikes coming out victorious 8-6. Josh Martin took the hill, looking to earn his fourth straight win. During that three game stretch, he had only given up five runs on ten hits. He was opposed by the highly touted young Mexican prospect Luis Heredia.

Eastwood Field proved to be a friendly place for the Scrappers Tuesday night, as they beat the State College Spikes 7-4. They hope the win will help them forget about a woeful road trip where they went just 2-4. Lefty Ryan Merrit took the hill, looking to improve on his last two rocky outings. In those starts he turned only a total of 8.1 innings giving up six runs on 14 hits.

A washout on Sunday gave the Scrappers and Renegades the opportunity to play two Monday. The Scrappers were one up, one down in the doubleheader, winning the second game 10-6 after dropping the first 3-2. The Scrappers had their best opportunity to win in game two, walking out one of the New York-Penn League’s top starters Luis Dejesus.

A new feature being tested out on the IPI today, one that ranks the top 20 performances in the Indians' entire farm system from the past week. Tony gives some thoughts and insight on those performances, a list that includes the likes of Giovanni Soto, Luigi Rodriguez, Jordan Smith, Jeanmar Gomez, Jake Sisco, Matt Packer, Steven Wright, Bo Greenwell and lots more.

As has been problematic as of late, the Scrappers found themselves in an early hole. Geoffrey Davenport took the bump, still seeking his first win of the year. but didn’t do himself any favors as the Scrappers dropped their fourth game in five nights Saturday, losing 6-3 to the Hudson Valley Renegades.

The Scrappers ended a three-game skid Friday night, defeating the Lowell Spinners 7-4. In doing so, they avoided being swept for the second time this season.

The short season Single-A Mahoning Valley Scrappers won just two games this past week to slip .500 and an even 12-12 going into Friday night's game. Some inconsistent offense along with some poor pitching out of the bullpen have been the biggest contributors to their recent slide. Despite holding a pair of one run leads late, the Scrappers lost a 13 inning thriller to the Lowell Spinners 5-4. Luis Dejesus got the start for the Scrappers. He has been nothing short of spectacular this season, entering play on Wednesday carrying the second lowest ERA in the New York-Penn League at 0.82 in 22 innings of work.
