Six-run second inning does in Scrappers on the road
One inning can be everything in the game of baseball. The Mahoning Valley Scrappers found that out the hard way on Sunday afternoon in Jamestown, NY. The Scrappers surrendered six runs on five hits and were never able to recover, eventually falling to the Jamestown Jammers, 9-4.

Scrappers fall to Jammers in a pitcher’s duel, 4-1
What a difference one day can make in the game of baseball. One night after the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Jamestown Jammers put on an offensive display when each pounded out 14 hits, the combine to record 14 hits on Saturday night in a 4-1 pitching dominated Jammers victory.

Offense propels Scrappers to Opening Day win, 10-9
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers did not leave their offense in Arizona when they ended extended spring training. That offense was on display early and often on Opening Night as the Scrappers batted around the order and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on their way to a 10-9 victory.

Determining Value
With another season here, the IBI's Tony Lastoria digs up an article which has been a site favorite for a few years. He talks about the decisions teams make with their prospects and the way they are handled which provides a good idea of how a team values each player in the organization. If you pay attention to how a player is used and how they are moved, you can get a good feel for their prospect value.

2014 IBI Positional Rankings: The First Basemen
Last week we wrapped up the 2014 Top 50 prospect countdown, and today we unveil the beginning of our 2014 Positional Rankings by kicking off things with the first basemen in the Indians system. First base is a position where the Indians have some strength in the upper levels, but beyond that it is a position of great uncertainty and one of the weaker positions in the organization. 2014 Indians Organizational Depth Chart
As spring training gets underway, here is an updated Cleveland Indians depth chart for the 2014 season and where players are "projected" to be assigned from Cleveland all the way down to extended spring training. We will continue to update this listing as moves are made this offseason, during spring training, and throughout the season with the addition, subtraction, promotion, demotion, etc of players. Inaugural Hot Stove event a lot of fun for the Scrappers
On Thursday night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers held their first-annual Hot Stove Banquet. The event was held, in part, to give fans a chance to interact with future major-leaguers, as well as give former Scrappers a chance to return to the Mahoning Valley. The IBI's Robert Fuller was there and gives the details of the event and also provides an update on Jose Ramirez.

Sulser has built himself up into an intriguing prospect to watch
Cole Sulser has always valued baseball and education. He starred at Dartmouth College were he majored in mechanical engineering, but has already constructed a formidable reputation as a professional on the baseball diamond. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently caught up with Sulser to see how his first year as a pro went and what he is doing to prepare for 2014.

Indians announce 2014 Player Development staff assignments
The Cleveland Indians today announced the organizational staff alignment within the Player Development System for the upcoming season. Chris Tremie remains as manager in Columbus while Dave Wallace moves up to Akron and Scooter Tucker moves to Carolina. Edwin Rodriguez has moved into a special assistant role and the Indians also welcomed in several new coaches.

Coach's Corner '13: Mahoning Valley hitting coach Shaun Larkin
Today, we continue our offseason Coach's Corner series with an interview with short season Single-A Mahoning Valley hitting coach Shaun Larkin. The IBI's Tony Lastoria recently had a chance to sit down with Larkin and talked about several of the hitters he worked with this season at Mahoning Valley. They discussed the strides that Nellie Rodriguez made from his early season struggles, the improvements Claudio Bautista and Josh McAdams continue to make, getting Robel Garcia to trust his abilities, the excitement that Joel Mejia brings as a prospect, and more.

Coach's Corner '13: Ruben Niebla Part 2
On Wednesday the IBI's Tony Lastoria posted part one of his extensive interview with Indians minor league pitching coordinator Ruben Niebla. In that piece we discussed a lot of the strides made and some struggled encountered by a great many pitchers at the full season affiliates. In today's second part, he provides Niebla’s thoughts on a bevy of young arms at the short season levels, gets into several of the philosophical and mechanical changes the Indians implemented in 2013 with how they develop pitchers, and discussed a ton of velocity jumps made by a litany of pitchers this season.

The IBI's Tony Lastoria recently had a chance to sit down with Indians minor league pitching coordinator Ruben Niebla and discussed the strides and sometimes the struggles for a great many pitchers at the full season affiliates this year. They talked about how Dylan Baker and Cody Anderson have separated themselves as prospects, the development of Shawn Morimando and Joe Colon, the rise of Will Roberts and Matt Packer, the work being done with Trevor Bauer, the resurgence of Bryan Price, and lots more.

2013 Tony Awards: All-Tony team
Today we wrap up the 2013 Tony Awards with the announcement of the All-Tony teams for 2013. These are the first, second and third teams as Tony sees them in the Cleveland Indians organization based on their performance this past year. Again, this is not a top prospect listing by position, but a listing based 100% on performance from the 2013 season.

2013 Tony Awards: Offensive Player of the Year
Today we continue the IBI’s year-end awards with the announcement of the Offensive Player of the Year. This award goes to the position player in the Indians organization that had the best year. Like with all the awards so far, this is 100% based on performance and not on prospect standing. Tony lists all of the top performances and narrows it down to three players who all had fantastic seasons, and his pick as the top player may come as a surprise.

The Radar Report: 2013 Volume III
"The Radar Report" is a premium feature that lists fastball velocities and other notes for several pitchers in the Indians' system which Tony has recorded during his visits to see the teams/players. Today's listing has 20 radar readings for pitchers in the Indians' minor league system that he saw pitch in Instructional League and the Arizona Fall League, and he includes some scouting notes on all of them and where available he has also included the velocity ranges for their secondary pitches.

2013 Tony Awards: Biggest Breakthrough
Today we continue the IBI postseason awards with the announcement of the Biggest Breakthrough in the minors. This award goes to the player who may not have been as highly touted coming into the season on prospect lists, but by the end of the season is definitely on the prospect map going into next season. The Indians had several players really breakthrough as prospects this season, and Tony talks about them all and picks his winner.

We continue on with our year-end pieces for all six Indians minor league affiliates, and today we wrap up our review of short season Single-A Mahoning Valley with an inside look at the pitchers. Recently, the IBI's Tony Lastoria had a chance to sit down with Indians Assistant Director of Player Development Carter Hawkins to get the organization’s thoughts on the performance/development of some of the pitchers there, and he includes those thoughts and comments on the likes of Caleb Hamrick, Cole Sulser, Luis Lugo, Kenny Mathews, Dace Kime, Trevor Frank and many others.
