On-Deck with the Captains: 7/5/12 - 7/12/12
The Low-A Lake County Captains had their walking boots on this past week in the batters box, while on the mound the pitcher's lived on the edge. The Captains were once again up and down with their performance, but there were some bright spots, and Lianna Holub recaps the week that was in her weekly notebook "On-Deck with the Captains".

Minor Happenings: Siliga showing improvement in the Valley
Today is the official start of the second half of the season, a time when prospects either surge or fizzle into a long offseason. In today’s Happenings, Tony takes a look at the recent surge by lefty Mike Rayl and outfielder Aaron Siliga, the promotions of two high profile relievers Shawn Armstrong and Tyler Sturdevant, he provides quotes from Ross Atkins on several Single-A players, and also has news and updates on players such as Corey Kluber, Matt Packer, Jesus Aguilar, Francisco Lindor, Tyler Naquin, Tyler Booth, and many more.

Elvis has entered the building...
Low-A Lake County left-handed pitcher Elvis Araujo jumped onto the prospect scene last season with a great year after missing the two previous seasons recovering from elbow surgery. This season has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for him, but Stephanie Metzger talked to him yesterday and he feels good and is just working to get better.

Hardworking Lindor looks to finish the season strong
Low-A Lake County shortstop and unanimous #1 Indians prospect Francisco Lindor has had a very good first full professional season to date. He's lived up to all of the accolades bestowed upon him coming out the draft, and has impressed everyone from the fans to the Indians organization with his play this year. With two months left in the season, he wants to finish strong, continue to get better, and not let up.

The Lake County Captains (9-9, 39-47) overcame a late Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-8, 48-40) rally to win the series finale in extra innings. Captains fall 7-5 to Hot Rods
It's never easy to play from behind, which is exactly what the Captains did on Sunday. Though the team was able to make it interesting and nearly completed the comeback, which Mike Zavagno provides all the details on.

Lindor-less Lake County lacks offense in 9-2 loss
The Lake County Captains made the long bus ride from Comstock Park, MI. to Bowling Green, KY. after defeating the West Michigan Whitecaps 9-2 Friday night. The team knew it would be traveling without shortstop Francisco Lindor, who instead went to Kansas City to take part in the Futures Game. Unfortunately, the Captains also forgot their bats on the ride south.

Manager's Minute '12: Dave Wallace
Low-A Lake County is loaded with lots of young talent that is very raw and has lots of upside. But there are also some other players like Jerrud Sabourin, Todd Hankins, Cody Anderson, Shawn Morimando and the recently departed Grant Sides that may not have had the notoriety coming into the season that have all had good seasons to date, and Tony recently sat down with manager Dave Wallace to discuss those players in depth as well as many other things.
