Captains drop home opener 5-2 to Hot Rods
The Lake County Captains opened the 2012 home schedule with their third consecutive loss in front of 4,388 fans at Classic Park, losing 5-2 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Hot Rods jumped out to an early lead against lefthander Elvis Araujo when designated hitter Jeff Malm hit a solo homerun to right field, his first of the year.

On-Deck with the Captains: 4/5/12 - 4/11/12
The Lake County Captains are off to a 3-3 start and are set for their home opener on Thursday against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. They are a young and exciting team with lots of prospects and potential and will be fun to watch this season. Lianna Holub checks in with here weekly Captains notebook.

Lake County falls 5-4 in 14 inning tilt
The Lake County Captains topped off their three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons in an extra-inning 5-4 loss Wednesday afternoon. Great Lakes jumped on Lake County starter Felix Sterling early in the first inning. Designated hitter Jesus Alberto Arredondo laced a line-drive single to center and advanced to second when first baseman Joseph Winker reached on an error.

Captains fall just short with 9th inning rally
The Lake County Captains dropped the second game of their three-game series against the Great Lakes Loons on Tuesday night, 5-4. The Captains jumped on the board first as leadoff hitter center fielder LeVon Washington reached base on a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Great Lakes third baseman Jesse Bosnik. Washington moved to third on a groundout by shortstop Francisco Lindor and scored when designated hitter Alex Monsalve sent a single to right.

Washington, Captains cruise to 8-0 victory
The Captains got the bats going early to give the pitching staff more than enough cushion to win the opening game of the three game series, 8-0. Right-hander Gustavo Gomez started the game for the Loons and the Captains started the game swinging again. Left fielder LeVon Washington walked to lead off the game and then shortstop Francisco Lindor singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. Right fielder Luigi Rodriguez singled to drive home Washington and the Captains led 1-0 after the top half of the first inning.

Captains jump on Tincaps early in 9-1 win
The Captains got rolling out of the gate on Saturday night and finished with a 9-1 win to take two out of three against the Fort Wayne Tincaps. LeVon Washington led off the game with a double down the left field line. Shortstop Francisco Lindor reached base on an infield single, moving Washington to third. Lindor stole second base and designated hitter Alex Monsalve walked to load the bases, and then third baseman Leonardo Castillo drove in Washington with a sacrifice fly to center field....

Alex Lavisky is back at Lake County to open the 2012 season. and with last year's learning experience with everything on and off the field he is looking to have a productive season to start to put things together. Tony recently had a chance to sit down with him and discuss his season last year and what he did in the offseason.

Cook struggles in Captains first loss
The Lake County Captains dropped their second game of the season to the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Friday night in a 9-3 loss.
Starting for Lake County was Elvis Araujo, a 20-year-old left-hander out of Venezuela. Araujo went four innings for the Captains, giving up three hits, two runs (one earned), and one walk while striking out seven TinCaps.

Captains rally late for season opening win
The Lake County Captains kicked off the 2012 season with a 4-3 win on the road against the Fort Wayne Tincaps on Thursday night. Taking the bump for Fort Wayne was Frank Garces. Garces went 6 strong innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs while striking out 9 Captains hitters. The Captains drew first blood as left fielder LeVon Washington led off with a walk. Shortstop Francisco Lindor reached base on a fielder’s choice before stealing second and reaching third on a passed ball. Lindor went on to score on another passed ball on Fort Wayne catcher Austin Hedges.

Wallace returns home to guide the Captains
When the Lake County Captains open their tenth season as a franchise tonight on the road in Fort Wayne, Indiana, there will be a special touch to the management side of the team this season. Dave Wallace will take over the reigns of the Captains this season, replacing Ted Kubiak as manager.
Wallace was a catcher for the Captains in 2003, their inaugural season. Wallace hit .291 in 64 games and...

The Captains are going to be a lot of fun to watch in the early going as they boast the most talented roster of all the Indians' minor league affiliates, and arguably have one of the best rosters in all of minor league baseball based on sheer talent and potential. 2012 Unofficial Opening Day minor league rosters
The official rosters for all four full season rosters should be officially released sometime on Monday afternoon, but Tony provides the 411 on what the four rosters should be when they are released. A lot of players are being pushed back a level because of all the Major League depth at Triple-A and some pitchers are dinged up. All the details are inside!

One of the most exciting things about a new season is watching all the new talent from the most recent draft to see who struggles and succeeds in their first full season. This spring all eyes are on last year's #1 pick shortstop Francisco Lindor, and this season he is ready to develop....and win.
