The Lake County Captains (14-11, 45-49) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and Shawn Morimando pitched six great innings to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits (13-12, 48-46) on Thursday night. With the win Lake County matched a season high with five straight wins.
Low-A Lake County catcher Alex Lavisky has not performed up to expectations so far in his second full season as a professional, but he has the aptitude, the tools, and the drive to get better. The Lake County Captains pulled off an 8-5 win over the Beloit Snappers in celebration of Captains’ starter Elvis Araujo’s 21st birthday on Sunday night. Araujo started for the Captains against Beloit lefty Ryan O’Rourke, who has struggled through the month of July.
