Low-A Lake County is loaded with lots of young talent that is very raw and has lots of upside. But there are also some other players like Jerrud Sabourin, Todd Hankins, Cody Anderson, Shawn Morimando and the recently departed Grant Sides that may not have had the notoriety coming into the season that have all had good seasons to date, and Tony recently sat down with manager Dave Wallace to discuss those players in depth as well as many other things.
The Lake County Captains (7-7, 38-45) could not muster close to any offense against the West Michigan Whitecaps (8-6, 44-40) as starter Marcelo Carreno (4-5, 3.32 ERA) shutout the Captains over seven innings and finished a 5-1 victory on Thursday night.
I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday! The Captains started the holiday fireworks early in the week with a walk-off win and a 2012 draft pick getting his first professional win (both happened in the same game). Lianna Holub details the week that was for the Captains in her weekly notebook "On-Deck with the Captains".

Although things have not come easy for Jordan Casas, nobody can say that the Indians 40th-round selection in the 2010 MLB Draft is not prepared for his opportunity. In his time with the organization, the 5’11”, 180 pound outfielder, who attended Long Beach State University, has played everywhere from Mahoning Valley to Akron and each place in between. Mike Zavagno gives an update on the speedy outfielder...
The final game of the series between the Lake County Captains and Fort Wayne TinCaps was cut short due to rain for the second time in three days, giving Lake County the 2-1 win. In the past year since being drafted, rightfielder Jordan Smith has performed at a high level from the moment he first stepped on the field. After a very promising pro debut at short season Single-A Mahoning Valley last year, he is having another good season this year at Low-A Lake County and his value continues to rise.
A pair of base running blunders proved to be costly for the Lake County Captains as they fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 5-4 on Monday. Right-hander Mason Radeke (5-1, 2.96) took the bump for the Captains for the first time against Fort Wayne’s Cody Hebner (6-3, 4.13). Radeke was formerly a starter in the Lake County bullpen this season, though he started last season for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, where he went 2-0 in nine games.

From the other dugout, righty Matt Wisler (2-4, 2.74) started for the TinCaps after receiving a loss in his last decision.

The Lake County Captains (4-4) could not provide a precursor to Friday night’s fireworks at Classic Park. The club continued its offensive struggles, mustering just two runs in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the West Michigan Whitecaps (4-4).
In today's week ending edition of Minor Happenings, Tony touches on the power binge that Double-A Akron outfielder Thomas Neal has been on and what that may mean as far as value and a promotion is concerned. In the inning Dayton hit for the cycle as a team including two triples, two doubles and a three run homer by the number nine hitter, Yovan Gonzalez.
