In this week’s first edition of the Happenings, I provide an update on what is going on out in Arizona with several players participating in extended spring training. I recently had a chance to sit down with the player development staff and discuss several players and I provide lots of comments from them on players such as D’Vone McClure, Josh McAdams, Tyler Booth, Kieran Lovegrove, Luis Lugo, Dillon Howard, and more. I also provide the details on Cord Phelps’ new role, the plans for Danny Salazar this season, and insight and info on the likes of Tim Fedroff, Jordan Cooper, Enosil Tejeda, Jake Sisco and more.

Baseball is full of the unexpected, and for Lake County Captains’ reliever Michael Peoples, the surprises started the day he was drafted. He was taken by the Cleveland Indians in the 14th round on the 2012 draft and to date has pitched well in his brief professional career. He is enjoying a good start to his season at Low-A Lake County, and the IBI's Stephanie Metzger recently caught up with him to discuss his start.

The IBI Hot List is back for another week and recaps the hot (and some cold) performances in the Indians system over the past week. This week Tony provides some insight and info on the recent hot performances from the likes of Danny Salazar, Ryan Merritt, Dylan Baker, Nick Pasquale, Justin Toole, D.J. Brown and others, and yes, he also looks at the recent cold showings from the likes of Dorssys Paulino, Ronny Rodriguez, Elvis Araujo, and others.

The Lake County Captains (12-21) were on the other side of a two-hitter on Sunday afternoon as the Bowling Green Hot Rods (22-12) defeated the Captains by a final score of 8-0.

BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY- The Lake County Captains (12-20) used two home runs and a two-hitter by the pitching staff to take game one over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (21-12) by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday night.

It was a quiet night in the farm system as two games were washed away and another was suspended late in the game leaving just Carolina who managed to play a complete nine inning game. The IBI's Arthur Kinney recaps the night and touches on some of the performances in Carolina and what happened in Akron before their game was delayed.

The Clippers unloaded on Thursday with two players in particular having great showings. One of the top prospects in Akron had a huge night, while the Mudcats played a doubleheader and had impressing pitching performances. Did #WashTime come through again? The Captains came back strong from a 3-0 on loss Wednesday to beat the Silver Hawks 5-0 in Thursday night's game. Despite their struggles on Wednesday, the Captains were strong defensively and behind the plate on Thursday night. Grabbing two runs in the bottom of the first, the Captains started off with a bang.

In this week’s Minor Happenings, Tony talks about the rapid growth of Danny Salazar and his alleged promotion to Columbus and what he needs to work on. He also looks at the return of Matt LaPorta and if his showing to date is any different from last year, provides some detailed comments from the front office on Trevor Bauer’s progression as a pitcher as well as the 411 on extended spring training, and also provides some insight and information on the likes of Preston Guilmet, Justin Toole, Francisco Lindor, Mitch Brown, and more.

The Captains fell to the Silver Hawks 3-0 Wednesday night after several failed attempts to bring in runs. After two pitching changes and only five hits, the Captains just could not bring men around to home. All the way through the seventh inning, the Captains never hit anything more than a single. Singles came from first baseman Erik Gonzalez, right fielder Logan Vick, catcher Jeremy Lucas, designated hitter Eric Haase and another from Gonzalez. Those singles were the only hits for the Captains on the night and the only positives for the Captains as well.

It was an interesting week for the Lake County Captains as they were on the road in Peoria and Burlington last week. Peoria’s results were rare, as one game ended in a tie after it was suspended due to weather on Thursday and continued on Friday, and another game was cancelled. The team picked up two wins in Burlington as the offense produced seven runs on Sunday and the pitching was untouchable on Monday. All of that and more is recapped in this week's notebook...

The top 20 performances over the past seven days are ranked with some commentary, and the five worst showings are also ranked with some commentary there as well. This week I take a look at the hot showing by shortstop Francisco Lindor, outfielder LeVon Washington, right-hander Jordan Cooper, outfielder Logan Vick and others, and then also look at the recent struggles of shortstop Dorssys Paulino, first baseman Jesus Aguilar, left-hander Shawn Morimando and others.

After eight scoreless innings, the Captains (10-19) came back strong in the top of the ninth to grab a 1-0 victory from the Bees (10-16).

The Lake County Captains’ offense generated some buzz on Sunday as they defeated the Burlington Bees 7-3 with a five-run ninth inning rally. Luis DeJesus (0-2, 6.30) received the start for the Captains to counter Burlington lefty Brandon Love (1-2, 5.18).

The Lake County Captains fell to the Burlington Bees by a final of 4-1 on Saturday Night. Burlington scored three runs in the seventh inning highlighted by a RBI single by Pedro Toribio. The three run spread proved to be the difference in the loss.
