Carolina Insider: 2012 season review

2012 was a mixed bag for the Carolina Mudcats, playing their inaugural season in Zebulon, NC after a quarter of a century in nearby Kinston. The Mudcats didn't set the Carolina League on fire by any stretch, but a bevy of good prospects showcased their talents here this season, in what turned into a year of massive development for several top prospects. Mudcats drop heartbreaker in extras
The Frederick Keys benefitted from some controversial calls in the tenth inning, and shocked the Carolina Mudcats 2-1 on Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Mudcats have lost three in a row, and drop to 63-76.

Keys lock down Mudcats
The Frederick Keys held the Carolina Mudcats without a run over the first eight innings en route to a 5-2 victory on Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium. The Mudcats scored twice in the ninth inning, snapping a 20-inning scoreless streak.

Mudcats drop home finale 3-0
ZEBULON- The Carolina Mudcats (31-35) fell to the Potomac Nationals (30-35) 3-0 in the Mudcats' home finale. A three run third by the Nationals would end up being the only scoring that the game would see as both sides pitched well throughout the game.

Cooper Rides High in Mudcats Victory, 3-1
Jordan Cooper finished his 2012 season a high note as he tossed seven dominant innings in a 3-1 win for the Carolina Mudcats over the Potomac Nationals on Thursday night at Five County Stadium. Cooper (9-7) won his third straight start by holding the Nationals to one unearned run while scattering four hits. He struck out seven and walked one batter.

Roberts leads Mudcats past Nationals, 6-2
The Carolina Mudcats (29-33) took the second game of the series over the Potomac Nationals (30-33) 6-2 on Wednesday night. Will Roberts turned in a great outing for the Mudcats as he tossed seven and one third innings giving up only two runs on eight hits to lead the Cats to the win.

The Mudcats were officially eliminated from playoff contention this past week, but that was all just a formality. Now, the only thing left to do is wait and see who's taking off for the greener pastures of Ohio, and Akron. There were few big weeks here in Carolina, but there WERE a few. Mudcats lose 4-1 to Nationals
The Carolina Mudcats (29-34) fell to the Potomac Nationals (29-33) 4-1 in the opening game of the final home series. Michael Goodnight turned in a solid outing for the Mudcats tossing five innings while surrendering only one run.

Mudcats drop series thanks to a 9-5 loss
The Carolina Mudcats fell to the Salem Red Sox to lose the series. A disastrous sixth inning would lead to the Mudcats loss as the Sox put up eight runs in the inning all of which came with two outs in the inning.

Cooper shines as Mudcats top Red Sox
The Carolina Mudcats behind a great start from Jordan Cooper took the second game of the series from the Salem Red Sox 4-2. Cooper tossed seven scoreless innings in which he allowed six hits while striking out six. He has allowed no runs in his last two starts, spanning a total of 12 innings.

Mudcats stunned by Nationals, lose 9-8 in extras
The Carolina Mudcats stormed out to a 7-3 lead, but could not make it hold as the Potomac Nationals rallied for a 9-8 win in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Pfitzner Stadium. The Nationals (26-32, 57-71) scored five unanswered runs over the last three innings for the win. Carolina drops to 28-31 in the second half, and 60-69, after enduring another tough loss.
