What better a topic to discuss than the Carolina Mudcats, and their ascension to glory. The Mudcats are in a dogfight for first place in the Southern Division of the Carolina League, and playing their most inspired baseball of the season. IPI Stock Watch: July 4, 2012
It is Wednesday, which means it is time to take stock on some of the players in the Indians’ minor league system. This report is a snapshot of a few players up and down the system and how their value may be decreasing or increasing as prospects. Rayl strong in Mudcats 5-3 win
The Carolina Mudcats (8-4) completed the sweep of the Potomac Nationals (6-6) as they took the final game of the series 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Mudcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and it seemed as though the Mudcats would be able to again cruise to victory as Mike Rayl breezed through the first four innings.

Aguilar, Mudcats pound the Nationals 11-1
The Carolina Mudcats (7-4) beat up on the Potomac Nationals (6-5) on Monday as they took the second game of the series 11-1. Led by first baseman Jesus Aguilar and third baseman Giovany Urshela the Mudcat offense was almost unstoppable scoring at least one run in all but one inning. Both hitters were a triple away from a cycle. Aguilar went 4-for-5 with two home runs and drove in six while Urshela added in three hits of his own with a homer and two RBI.

Mudcats capitalize on Nationals miscues
The Carolina Mudcats (6-4) took the first game of the series from the Potomac Nationals (6-4) 8-3. Francisco Jimenez gave the Mudcats a strong outing, tossing six innings, while giving up only one run on three hits. “He was good, he kept us in the game. At points he lost his concentration when he was facing the bottom of the order, but overall it was a very good outing” said manager Edwin Rodriguez

Mudcats fall late to Pelicans 5-4
The Carolina Mudcats could not hold a late two-run lead, and fell to Myrtle Beach 5-4 in 11 innings on Saturday night at TicketReturn.com Field. The Mudcats led 4-2 entering the eighth inning. After Michael Goodnight dealt another quality start, two runs over seven innings, Carolina handed the ball to Jose Flores. The rest is history...

Bullpen leads Mudcats to 9-6 triumph
The Carolina Mudcats’ bullpen gave a strong effort in a 9-6 triumph over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday night at TicketReturn.com Field. Dale Dickerson (5-2), Shawn Armstrong and Grant Sides combined to hold the Pelicans (6-3, 42-37) to two runs over the final seven innings. Dickerson entered the game in the third, and allowed one run on one hit over three innings to earn the win.

Minor Happenings: Neal is finally showing his power
In today's week ending edition of Minor Happenings, Tony touches on the power binge that Double-A Akron outfielder Thomas Neal has been on and what that may mean as far as value and a promotion is concerned. In addition to that he provides some recent comments from Ross Atkins on some big league pitching options at Triple-A Columbus, and provides updates on several players at each level from Triple-A Columbus to rookie level Arizona, namely Tim Fedroff, Jeremie Tice, Jesus Aguilar, Rob Nixon, Juan Romero, Jorge Martinez, and more.

Rayl pitches well, but Mudcats falter 3-2
The Carolina Mudcats received another terrific start from southpaw Mike Rayl, but could not capitalize on the opportunity in a 3-2 loss to Myrtle Beach on Thursday night at TicketReturn.com Field. Rayl tossed seven innings for the fourth time this year, allowing two runs and scattering five hits. He walked two and struck out four. It was his sixth quality start in 16 outings for the Mudcats (5-3, 37-41).

Cooper, Mudcats hold off Keys, win 4-2
Jordan Cooper and the Carolina Mudcats held a pesky Frederick Keys team at bay on Wednesday afternoon to pick up a 4-2 win in front of 3,382 at Five County Stadium. Cooper (3-3) tossed four innings in relief of starter Danny Salazar, holding the Keys (3-4, 30-47) to one run while scattering three hits.

Aguilar helps wake up Mudcats bats in 8-6 win
The Carolina Mudcats (3-2) broke out of a 23 inning scoreless streak to down the Frederick Keys (3-2) on Tuesday night 8-6. Behind a huge night from first baseman Jesus Aguilar who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI, the Mudcats offense was able to break out of their slump in a big way.

Mudcats washed out late in 1-0 loss
The Carolina Mudcats (3-1) fell in a rain shortened game to the Frederick Keys (2-2) on Monday night ,1-0. A pitching duel between Michael Goodnight and Kyle Simon saw only one run scored in the game. The Keys were finally able to push a run across in the top of the eighth, as the first two runners of the inning reached and then first baseman Aaron Baker singled to left scoring third baseman Travis Adair.
