Ryan Merritt may be a self-described “country boy” from a small town in Texas, but the talented left-hander has made a name for himself and now hopes to make it all the way to the big city of Cleveland. The Carolina Mudcats fell to the Frederick Keys 3-1 after 11 innings of play on Friday night at Five County Stadium. With a steady rain falling in the top half of the eleventh inning, two Keys were walked by left-hander Elvis Araujo. When it was all said and done both runners would come around to score to give the Keys a two-run victory.

The Mudcats dropped a heartbreaker 10-2 to the Salem Red Sox in extra innings on Thursday night. A disastrous tenth inning that included four Mudcats’ errors, ultimately, cost Carolina the game. Mudcats manager Scooter Tucker thought the team played well, but was disappointed with the tenth inning collapse.

Thanks to some bad weather Tuesday night, Akron, Carolina, and Lake County had doubleheaders Wednesday. The Carolina Mudcats managed to brave cold weather and beat the Salem Red Sox twice in a doubleheader Wednesday. The first game ended with a 4-0 Mudcats victory, while the second was tight contest, finishing 2-1 in favor of Carolina. Ollie Linton's run scored in the fourth inning of game two proved to be the final piece in completing the doubleheader sweep.

Tuesday's scheduled game between the Carolina Mudcats and the Salem Red Sox at Five County Stadium has been postponed due to rain. The two clubs will meet for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 16, at 5 PM ET. Both games will be scheduled for seven innings with a 30 minute recess between.

After a back and fourth game, the Carolina Mudcats fell, 6-5, to Potomac Monday night. Louis Head allowed a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth after back-to-back home runs tied up the game for Carolina in the top of the eighth inning. The efforts of Alex Monsalve and Anthony Gallas weren't quite enough to overcome Khayyan Norfork's late-game heroics.

The Carolina Mudcats broke out of an offensive slump to crush the Potomac Nationals 12-2 on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander D.J. Brown was forced to make an emergency start as scheduled starter, Dylan Baker (1-0, 3.38) sustained a lower right leg injury as he took the field, and left on crutches.

After tallying five double, the Carolina Mudcats were unable to capitalize as they fell to the Potomac Nationals 3-1. Even with nine hits, Carolina couldn't get the offense going as it stranded nine base runners. Cole Sulser was saddled with the loss after pitching 5.2 solid innings while a strong relief performance from Jacob Lee provided no relief for the game's result.

Despite keeping it close throughout and a late inning rally, the Carolina Mudcats were never able to take control of the game as they fell to the Potomac Nationals 4-2 on Friday night. Carolina (5-3) trailed by no more than one run until the seventh inning, when the team gave up three runs with the score tied at one to fall behind by more than they could catch up to.

Nine runs proved to be plenty as the Carolina Mudcats topped the Frederick Keys, 9-2, Wednesday in Maryland. The Mudcats improved their record to 4-2 on the season, fueled largely by five runs in the fifth inning. Three different Mudcats recorded two RBIs while Alex Monslave tallied three hits and three runs.

In their first road game of the season, the Carolina Mudcats (3-2) relied on six perfect innings from starter Dylan Baker to secure a 7-0 shutout victory over the Frederick Keys (2-3) on Tuesday night. Baker started his tenure off with Carolina on a high note with a perfect pitching performance after being transferred from Mahoning Valley on Monday. Baker retired 18 straight Keys' batters.

Despite holding a two-run lead through seven innings, the Carolina Mudcats gave up five runs over the final two innings to fall to the Potomac Nationals 6-4 on Sunday afternoon. Making his Carolina League debut, right-hander Cole Sulser pitched admirably, giving up only one run and one hit over five innings, while striking out seven and walking just one batter.
