Cannon looks to make good on opportunity
No one ever said playing in the minor leagues was easy. Sometimes players have to sit and wait for an opportunity, and then when that opportunity comes they have to seize it. High-A Carolina utility player Tyler Cannon may be getting that opportunity and chance right now.

Mudcats split a pair
The Carolina Mudcats and Lynchburg Hillcats completed their suspended game on Tuesday evening with the Mudcats winning 5-2. The Hillcats took the originally scheduled game, played in seven innings, 5-2 at night’s end. Carolina (11-13) left the field last night with a 4-1 lead over Lynchburg (14-9) when heavy fog reduced visibility enough to halt play. The team picked up where they left off as back-to-back walks allowed Carlos Moncrief to drive in a run with a hit. The single increased the Mudcats advantage to 5-1. Lynchburg retaliated with a run in the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Tommy La Stella.

Early offense propels Salem to 3-2 win over Carolina
The Salem Red Sox scored three early runs and that’s all they needed to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 3-2 on Saturday night at Lewis Gale Field in Salem, Virginia. Red Sox starting pitcher, Ryan Pressly, snagged his first win of the season by striking out six and allowing the only three hits that Carolina could muster over six strong innings. Pressly was replaced in favor of Salem reliever Marco Duarte when he was unable to hold onto a shutout by allowing the Mudcats to score their only two runs of the night.

Mudcats fall in Salem, 7-2
The Carolina Mudcats fell to the Salem Red Sox 7-2 on Friday night at LewisGale Stadium in Salem, Virginia. After a successful four game home-stand against the Lynchburg Hillcats where they won three out of four, Carolina was unable to produce much offense thanks to the dominating performance by Red Sox starting pitcher Brandon Workman. Allowing only three hits and striking out four batters in six solid innings of work, Workman earned his first victory of the season.
