High-A Carolina Mudcats left-handed pitcher T.J. House had a disappointing season last year, but Monday night he had a great 2012 debut with seven shutout innings. Tony recently sat down with House and talked about his season last year and what he did to fix some of the struggles he went through.
In their attempt to take the series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the second game the Mudcats lost a close one 3-2. Right-handed pitcher Danny Salazar took the mound for the Mudcats and went into the game on a strict pitch limit as he is still in the process of being stretched out. He is the only member of the Mudcats on the Cleveland Indians 40-man roster. Salazar had a less then stellar outing as he ended up going three and two thirds innings and gave up three runs on four hits and three walks.
The Mudcats opened a three game set with a 6-0 win against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Monday night. Lefty T.J. House took the mound for his first start for the Mudcats and was up against Greg Billo for the Blue Rocks. House would turn in the best starting pitching performance for the Mudcats in the early going of the season as he went seven scoreless innings only giving up two hits and had nine strikeouts. In five of the seven innings he pitched he faced the minimum.
The Carolina Mudcats defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 10-9 on Sunday afternoon to win a zany game, and take the first series of their young season at Five County Stadium. Clayton Ehlert blew the lead in the ninth inning, but clutch hitting and shoddy defense gave the Mudcats the three runs they needed in the ninth to give them the victory.
The Winston-Salem Dash quickly erased the memory of their opening day loss to the Carolina Mudcats with a strong 7-2 victory on Saturday night at Five County Stadium. A towering solo home run in the second inning by Dash catcher Mike Blanke set the tone for the evening, and Mudcats' left-handed starting pitcher Mike Rayl got the loss due to a four run fourth inning by Winston- Salem that put the game out of reach.
An impressive six-run eighth inning scoring frenzy propelled the Carolina Mudcats to an 11-2 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash on Friday, April 6th. Shortstop Ronny Rodriguez, center fielder Tyler Holt and first baseman Jesus Aguilar combined for seven RBI’s. Aguilar went 4-for-5 with three singles and a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh that put the Mudcats up 5-1.
We close out our 2012 pre-season with the Indians brand new High A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats. The Kinston Indians closed up shop last season with a playoff run that took them to a loss in the Carolina League championship, but are primed for another run at the crown with the K-Tribe's move to the 6,500 seat Five County Stadium. Loaded with ten of the IPI's top 50 prospects, Jim Pete returns to preview the premiere edition of the Carolina Mudcats.
The minor league baseball season kicks off tomorrow. Opening day is just around the corner! With that in mind, we gathered several of the IPI writers together to talk about several questions pertaining to the Indians minor league system and how things may shake out this season.
Zebulon, NC - In an exhibition game between the Carolina Mudcats and the Cleveland Indians yesterday at Five County Stadium, the visiting Indians put on a show for the fans as they blanked the Mudcats 13-0.
A rare sight and only acceptable in an exhibition game, Scott Barnes got the start for the Mudcats while appearing on the pitching mound in a Cleveland Indians uniform. In the first inning,...
The official rosters for all four full season rosters should be officially released sometime on Monday afternoon, but Tony provides the 411 on what the four rosters should be when they are released. A lot of players are being pushed back a level because of all the Major League depth at Triple-A and some pitchers are dinged up. All the details are inside!
Last season Kyle Blair did not deliver on the expectations set on him after being a high profile draft selection and signing in 2010, but if his knee injury that significantly impacted his effectiveness for most of last season is behind him he may be ready to get on a roll and repair his prospect standing.
Spring training is right around the corner, and one player that is looking forward to the new season is infielder Casey Frawley. Tony gets his thoughts on a frustrating 2011 season where he battled some vision issues and what he is looking forward to in 2012.
