The Carolina Mudcats stormed the second half in the Carolina League to open up the season, but lost their momentum during the Fourth of July festivities. Nathan Karns held the Carolina Mudcats to one run over seven innings as the Potomac Nationals claimed the series with 2-1 victory on Monday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Karns (4-2) scattered three hits as the Potomac Nationals improved to 10-9, 41-48 overall. The Mudcats fell to 11-8, 43-46 overall.

There's a good chance Alex Monslave won't forget his first hit as a Carolina Mudcat. The catcher recorded his first hit, a home run, to back a dominating start from Mike Rayl to lead Carolina to a 3-2 win over the Potomac Nationals.

A day after committing five errors against Salem, the Carolina Mudcats faltered on two different occasions that led to pivotal runs in a 4-3 loss to the Potomac Nationals on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Carolina dropped to 10-6 in the second half, and 42-45 overall. Potomac scored the winning run on Kevin Keyes’ 10th home run of the year in the eighth inning.

The rubber match between the Carolina Mudcats (10-5) and Salem Red Sox (4-11) was delayed 41 minutes due to rain, but the Mudcats probably wish it had just been cancelled as they were walloped by the Red Sox 16-2. The Mudcats will look to get back on track as they hit the road to take on the Potomac Nationals on Sunday night at 6:35.

The Carolina Mudcats (9-5) were able to bounce back from the beat down they received on Wednesday night to take the second game of the series from the Salem Red Sox (4-10) with a 4-3 win on Thursday night. After starter Michael Goodnight retired the side in order in the top of the first, Right fielder Bo Greenwell stroked a solo shot over the right field wall in the bottom of the inning to give the Mudcats an early 1-0 lead.

The Carolina Mudcats (8-4) completed the sweep of the Potomac Nationals (6-6) as they took the final game of the series 5-3 on Tuesday night. The Mudcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and it seemed as though the Mudcats would be able to again cruise to victory as Mike Rayl breezed through the first four innings.

The Carolina Mudcats (7-4) beat up on the Potomac Nationals (6-5) on Monday as they took the second game of the series 11-1. Led by first baseman Jesus Aguilar and third baseman Giovany Urshela the Mudcat offense was almost unstoppable scoring at least one run in all but one inning. Both hitters were a triple away from a cycle. Aguilar went 4-for-5 with two home runs and drove in six while Urshela added in three hits of his own with a homer and two RBI.

Francisco Jimenez gave the Mudcats a strong outing, tossing six innings, while giving up only one run on three hits. “He was good, he kept us in the game. At points he lost his concentration when he was facing the bottom of the order, but overall it was a very good outing” said manager Edwin Rodriguez

The Carolina Mudcats’ bullpen gave a strong effort in a 9-6 triumph over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Friday night at TicketReturn.com Field. Dale Dickerson (5-2), Shawn Armstrong and Grant Sides combined to hold the Pelicans (6-3, 42-37) to two runs over the final seven innings. Dickerson entered the game in the third, and allowed one run on one hit over three innings to earn the win.
