After a short hiatus due to the Memorial Day holiday and last week’s MLB Draft, it is time for another Monday edition of “3 Up, 3 Down”. This is a weekly premium feature on the site that focuses in on a few of the good and not so good performances from the past week in the Indians’ minor league system. Insight gathered from talking with scouts, coaches and executives inside and outside the organization are used when talking about each of these players. The Carolina Mudcats (29-33) bounced back after losing both ends of a double header yesterday to take the final game of the series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (32-30) 3-1. Mike Rayl got the start for the Mudcats and turned in one of his better outings of the year, hurling five innings while giving up only one run and striking out five.

The Carolina Mudcats (29-31) lost both games of the doubleheader to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (30-30) Saturday by a tally of 3-0 in the first, and 8-1 in the second. The Pelicans put together a two out rally in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead to start the game.

The Carolina Mudcats (28-31) opened up there series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (30-29) with an impressive 5-1 win pushing their winning streak to three games. Behind second baseman Tony Wolters' 2-for-4 and two RBI night, the Mudcats scored early on Pelican starter Randy Henry who was making his first professional start as he has been the Pelican closer for the majority of the year.

The Mudcats' Tyler Cannon and Michael Goodnight shined in a 12-1 thumping of the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Thursday night at Daniel Frawley Stadium. The Mudcats (28-31) salavaged a split of the series with Wilmington (28-31) thanks to the win.

Tony Wolters plated three runs on three hits to help the Carolina Mudcats knock off the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-2 on Wednesday night at Daniel Frawley Stadium. Will Roberts (3-2) held Wilmington (28-30) to two runs on six hits over six innings to pick up the win.

The first half is winding to a close, and the Carolina Mudcats are trying to right a ship that has seemingly sailed after lsoing all their games last week. While this week was an improvement, as they played over .500 baseball, they still dropped another game to first place Winston-Salem. It may be over...before it's over. Sugar Ray Marimon scattered three hits over seven dominant innings as the Wilmington Blue Rocks beat the Carolina Mudcats 5-2 on Tuesday night at Daniel Frawley Stadium. Marimon (4-0) struck out five hitters, and allowed only one runner to reach third. The Blue Rocks improved to 28-29 while the Mudcats drop to 26-31.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks took home a 2-0 win over the Carolina Mudcats on a soggy Monday night at Frawley Stadium. The game was called in the fifth inning due to unplayable field conditions. The Mudcats fall to 26-30, while the Blue Rocks improve to 27-29. Francisco Jimenez (5-3) was stuck with the loss after allowing two second inning runs. He gave up six hits, walked two and struck out one.

The Winston-Salem Dash blanked the Carolina Mudcats 3-0 behind a great start from Jake Petricka on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. A partisan crowd of 6,963 watched Petricka (4-4) deal seven scoreless for the Dash (33-21). He scattered three hits with six strikeouts.

The Winston-Salem Dash and Carolina Mudcats went back and forth all night, but the Dash had the final say in an 8-7 triumph at BB&T Ballpark on Friday night. A crowd of 5,524 saw the teams swap the lead four times throughout the night. Chris Bassitt (1-1) picked up the win in relief, despite allowing a two-run homer in the eighth. Shawn Armstrong (0-2) takes the heartbreaking loss after bringing the go-ahead run on a hit-by-pitch.

Tony recently sat down with Carter Hawkins in the Indians Player Development Department and discussed how things look in the system as the quarter pole in the minor league season was recently passed. They discussed over 16 players with how they are doing and what strides they are making, namely Cord Phelps, Corey Kluber, Bryan Price, Jeremie Tice, Carlos Moncrief, Shawn Armstrong, Jeff Johnson, Grant Sides, Dorsyss Paulino and more.

The Carolina Mudcats (24-27) beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks (24-27) on Thursday night, 7-5. After the Blue Rocks tied the game in the top of the eighth, 2-2, the Mudcats erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the game and the series from the Blue Rocks. The Mudcats were led by Jake Lowery who went 2-for-4 with three RBI’s.

The Carolina Mudcats (23-27) took two in a row against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (24-26) with a 5-3 win on Wednesday. Behind a strong pitching performance from Francisco Jimenez the Mudcats were able to keep the Blue Rocks bats at bay for the majority of the night.
