Neal strives to get better every day
Double-A Akron outfielder Thomas Neal got off to a slow start this season, but his desire to improve and get better everyday has shown itself this season as his performance has improved as the season has worn on. He has really performed well over the last two months, and Christian Turner had a chance to sit down with him this week to check in and see how things are going.

Akron falls to Portland 3-1
Portland third baseman Marquez Smith had two runs batted in while four Sea Dogs pitchers combined to throw a four-hitter, as Portland defeated the Akron Aeros, 3-1, Tuesday. Mike MacDonald, Jason Urquidez, Brock Huntzinger and Michael Olmsted kept the Aeros quiet in the series opener at Canal Park, allowing just four hits and one run.

Launching Off With The Aeros: 7/31/12 - 8/6/12
Your Akron Aeros struggled a bit on the road this past week, losing three of five games and falling out of the top spot in the Eastern League. Luckily, the Aeros are still 67-46 and have an 11 game cushion in their quest for the playoffs. So if you can't bear to read more negativity about the big league club, check out Launching Off With The Aeros for more on one of the winning teams in the Indians' organization.

Sea Dogs Blank Aeros 3-0
The Portland Sea Dogs captured a 3-0 victory to claim a series win against the Akron Aeros Thursday. The Aeros put ten hits on the board, but were unable to make it around to home, allowing the Sea Dogs to shut them out for the second time in the series.

How I Met Your Aeros: Preston Guilmet
In the 9th inning of a tight game at Canal Park, you very well might get to see Preston Guilmet and his unorthodox pitching style. Guilmet uses his unique straight over the top style to confuse hitters and it has worked very well this year. Jim Piascik talked with Guilmet recently about his pitching style, his approach, and whether he feels the pressure of being the closer.

Minor Happenings: Fedroff fights for big league opportunity
In this week's second edition of Minor Happenings, Tony takes a long, hard look at the Triple-A Columbus roster. He takes a look at the hot hitting Tim Fedroff, Ezequiel Carrera and Jared Goedert and provides insight and analysis on whether they are big league options for the Indians anytime soon, provides several interesting comments from Ross Atkins on how they handle players that are affected by trades as well as some thoughts on Vinny Rottino and J.C. Romero, and more.

Minor Happenings: So long Mr. Wright, Hello Mr. Anderson
With the trade deadline now in the past and my vacation but a distant memory, it is time to get back into the swing of things with Minor Happenings as we head down the home stretch of the minor league season. Today, Tony provides updates on the departing Steven Wright and incoming Lars Anderson, the recent impressive performances from lefties T.J. House and Danny Jimenez, all sorts of goodies from Farm Director Ross Atkins on some pitchers in the system, an update on the health of Jeremie Tice, and more.

Launching Off With The Aeros: 7/24/12 - 7/30/12
Your Akron Aeros had a very successful homestand over the past week, taking four of six and improving to 65-43 on the season. The Aeros did it with names you may very well know from brief callups to the Majors (Juan Diaz) or big trades (Rob Bryson), but those two did not do it alone. Like every other week, check out Launching Off With The Aeros as Jim Piascik takes you through all you need to know about the Akron Aeros.

Akron falls in series finale, but still finish with good homestand
Bowie shortstop Manny Machado, one of the top prospects in baseball, homered, doubled and played slick defense Sunday, as the Baysox beat the Akron Aeros, 5-4, in the finale of a four-game series at Canal Park. Despite the loss, Akron finished with a 5-2 record during their seven-game homestand while maintaining a 9.5 game lead in the Eastern League Western Division.

Akron sweeps twinbill over Bowie
The Aeros took both games in their double header with the Bowie Baysox Saturday night, winning the first 3-2 and the second 6-1 in front of 5,594 fans at Canal Park. In game one, Akron got the scoring started with a three run third inning. Right fielder Jordan Henry hit an RBI single to score Roberto Perez, and left fielder Nick Weglarz hit another RBI single with runners on second and third to give the Aeros a 3-0 lead.

Health and playing time help Weglarz get on track
Double-A Akron outfielder Nick Weglarz has battled the injury bug the past several seasons, and it eventually caught up to him last season and the start of this season as his offensive performance took a nosedive. But he has gotten stronger over the course of this season, remained healthy, and made a few adjustments with his swing that have resulted in much better play of late.
