The first full edition of Minor Happenings is back for the 2013 season. The Columbus Clippers' 2013 season got underway this week with two away series in Indianapolis, IN and Louisville, KY. The Clippers left Indianapolis with a series split, 2-2, and then earned a 2-1 series win over the Louisville Bats to bring their record to 4-3 on the year. The start of the season brings some early glory and forgettable woes for the club, and all of that is recapped and more in the first Clippers notebook of the year.

The Columbus Clippers used five pitchers to secure a 5-0 shutout win over the Louisville Bats on Wednesday night. The victory gave the Clippers the series win, 2-1. The headline before the game was that Clippers starting pitcher to be, Corey Kluber, was recalled back up to the majors.

The doubleheader between the Lake County Captains (1-4) and the Great Lakes Loons (2-3) scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. The two games are being rescheduled for the weekend of Friday April 19th when the Captains return to Dow Diamond for another three game series.

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Columbus Clippers got shutout for the second time in the last three nights Tuesday as the team fell 4-0 to the Louisville Bats. The Clippers only registered five hits in the contest, and the loss brings the series to a 1-1 split with the final game tomorrow.

The Columbus Clippers won their third game of the season on Monday night, beating the Louisville Bats 7-2. Louisville and Columbus starters Daniel Corcino and David Huff started their evening with three innings of shutout baseball. The fourth inning was one that both of these pitchers would like to forget. The Clippers and Bats finally came alive offensively, combining for seven runs.

After winning back-to-back Triple-A National Championships in 2010 and 2011, the Columbus Clippers failed to make the playoffs in 2012, finishing second in the International West Division with a 75-69 record. This season, under the leadership of first-year manager Chris Tremie, the Clippers will look to get back to their championship caliber selves. Spring training wrapped up for the Indians on Saturday. Not only has the big league team broken camp and are on their way to Toronto for their opening day series which gets started on Tuesday, but about 100 minor leaguers are also in transit to Columbus, Akron, Zebulon and Eastlake to begin their minor league seasons which kick off on Thursday next week.
