Transactions

Another week of transactions is behind us and the pace of roster movement has not slowed down at all. Notable call-ups include Cole Cook getting the call to AA, Dorssys Paulino making the transition to playing in front of fans, and Matt LaPorta getting yet another crack (his last?) at the big leagues.

The players from the Indians that will be participating in the Arizona Fall League this fall have been announced today. The seven players that are expected to join the team are left-handed pitchers Matt Packer and T.J. House, right-handed pitchers Shawn Armstrong and Trey Haley, outfielders Tyler Holt...

The IPI has learned that the Indians have promoted rookie level Arizona shortstop Dorssys Paulino to short season Single-A Mahoning Valley. The move has not yet been made official by the Indians, he supposedly left Arizona yesterday and should join Mahoning Valley this week, likely in Batavia today or tomorrow.

While this was one of the quieter weeks in terms of the transaction wire, that doesn't mean it was boring. The past week saw the Clippers roster briefly hit 21, a trade with the Orioles, multiple promotions, Josh Tomlin and Kyle Petter on the DL, the clearing of the Tribe's DFA backlog, the professional debut of Caleb Hamrick in Goodyear, and the return of Roberto Hernandez to the Major Leagues.

Whew! What a week! At one point the Indians had four players designated for assignment (is that some sort of Major League record?). The Clippers roster ended the week standing at 22 (a few more callups sans countermove and we could be looking at the Grand Canyon of roster holes here).

Early Monday afternoon the Indians roster shuffle continued as they announced that they had claimed minor league right-handed pitcher Fabio Martinez off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. Tony provides some information on the Indians' newest member of the organization.

The Indians dumped Derek Lowe and Johnny Damon into the trash heap, and dealt Steven Wright to the Boston Red Sox, where he'll be learning from the knuckleball of Wakefield. Kluber, Rottino, Carrera and Seddon also made the move to the bigs, while Travis Hafner headed home for the birth of a child. Oh yeah, Aaron Cunningham was DFA'ed, and kept around. Oh joy...

It might not be the blockbuster deal many fans were hoping for, but the Cleveland Indians were able to make some noise (more like a whisper) before Tuesday's trade deadline. The Indians acquired first baseman/outfielder Lars Anderson from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Double-A starting pitcher Steven Wright.

It was another busy week of transactions up and down the Cleveland Indians organization. In Cleveland, Brent Lillibridge joined the big league club, Roberto Hernandez returned to the USA with a rehab stint in Lake County, Logan Vick made it to Mahoning Valley, and Columbus' added free agent pitcher J.C. In this week's Transactions, Arthur caps off a busy week headlined by Cody Allen's promotion to Cleveland. Rafael Perez made several sighting all across Ohio, as he tries to find his way back to Cleveland. Trey Haley has also made some movement on his rehab assignment. Today the Cleveland Indians have announced that they have claimed first baseman/left fielder Vinny Rottino off of waivers from the New York Mets. To make room on the 40-man roster for him the Indians have designated right-handed pitcher Chris Schwinden for assignment.

As expected, the Indians made made several roster moves today throughout their minor league system. With the start of the second half for the full season Single-A teams and the start of short season leagues, this is usually a time where there is a lot of movement. The Indians have been quite busy on the transactions front the past few weeks from the big league team down to Low-A Lake County. Several players have been promoted/demoted while others have been activated from injuries. Arthur Kinney is here is recap all of the activity...

Here is the (heavily delayed) transaction rundown with a look back at a week that began with shuffling in the minor league rosters marked by the return to health of hot corner prospects Lonnie Chisenhall and Giovanny Urshela, and ended with Zach McAllister's return to Columbus to make room for Juan Diaz in Cleveland and Matt Lawson's return to competitive baseball from extended spring training.

Today the Indians announced that catcher Carlos Santana has been placed on Major League Baseball’s new 7-day disabled list for concussion. They purchases the contract of Triple-A Columbus catcher Luke Carlin and added him to the roster. To make room on the 40-man roster for Carlin, left-handed pitcher Rafael Perez has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day Disabled List.
