Spring training wrapped up about two weeks ago, but here are the final unofficial stats from Indians minor league spring training camp. Stats for over 100 players are listed and is a comprehensive listing of all available stats from the minor league games played this past March in Goodyear, Arizona.
Here are the final winter ball statistics for all Cleveland Indians players that participated in fall/winter ball action out in the Arizona Fall League, Australian Baseball League, Dominican Winter League, Puerto Rico Winter League, and Venezuela Winter League. These stats include all the playoff stats for the Latin American leagues, something MLB.com and MiLB.com do not do.
Here are the full stats for both Double-A Akron and Low-A Lake County during their playoff run this season. In doing the Instructional League and Arizona Parallel League stats we realized we forgot to post the final stats for the two playoff teams, so without further ado here they are. They may be a month late, but better late than never!
Tony and his IPI staff have compiled all the stats from the Arizona Parallel League (AZPL), otherwise known as the advanced Instructional League. The complete stats for all players that participated in the AZPL such as Anthony Gallas, Alex Lavisky, Bryson Myles, LeVon Washington, Jeff Johnson, Mason Radeke and others are included. One final notebook will post either tomorrow or Monday to wrapup the 2012 Instructional League coverage here at IPI.
Fall Instructional League (FIL) is over and the players have departed and gone home for the offseason. Tony and his IPI staff have compiled all the stats from the four week Instructional League period and today the FIL stats and team leaders are posted. Later this week the Arizona Parallel League (AZPL) stats will be posted and Tony also have two in-depth notebooks coming to wrap up Instructional League coverage for 2012.
A new feature to (finally) debut on the IPI today, "The Radar Report". This is a self-explanatory report that will provide low, high, and average fastball velocities on a weekly basis for several prospects in the Indians' system. This week's report has radar information on close to two dozen players.
Better late than never, but here are the final stats from Indians' minor league camp in Goodyear, Arizona this spring training. Over 100 players are listed with all the available stats from hitters and pitchers compiled into one listing. As always, thanks to Arthur K. for his assistance on this project!
BABIP....what is it and how does it work? Most of all, can we use it to gain any insight into how some Indians players will perform this season? Many people do not understand this stat (or want to understand it), but Jeff Ellis explains what it is and why it is important in his latest article from his explaining stats series.
The Indians are known to have a left-leaning lineup, but how much can this me mitigated and how much will this really hurt them? Through effective management of the hitters available to him, Manny Acta could put together a successful lineup that not only scores more runs, but also potentially "fresh" and off the DL.
In his continuing series at the IPI, Jeff Ellis takes a look at another advanced metric ultimate zone rating, also known as UZR. Jeff explains what it is, why it is useful, and why it is valued.
WAR stands for Wins Above Replacement, and replaced VORP, value over replacement player, as the go to stat for trying to figure out the overall value of a player. It is simply the number of wins a player should help his team win in comparison to what a AAA player would do if called up in place of them. The idea being that a AAA team in the majors would be historically bad winning less than 40 games.
For this entry in this "Explaing Stats" series, I will explain two important stats: OPS and OPS+. In most places only OPS is referenced and it is a useful tool for evaluation, but OPS+ is a way to improve on OPS and make it carry more meaning and make up for the problems that people find in OPS.
OPS stands for on-base plus slugging. It is literally just the addition of the two stats on-base...

My earliest memory of baseball stats was as a child going over to my grandmother's house and after everyone was done with the Sunday paper I would cut out the giant section of stats in the Sunday Akron Beacon Journal.
For those who don't remember or did not get the paper every Sunday they had just about every player listed in order of batting average with Indians players bolded, and then...
