Around the Farm: December 21, 2012
It was a busy night around the winter leagues on Friday as the Dominican Winter League played its final round of regular season games. Jose Ramirez's team, Toros del Este, will be advancing to the next round, but what about Carlos Santana and his team, Leones Del Escogido? Plus, in other action, Ryan Battaglia and Andrew Campbell continue to rake in the Australian Baseball League, and a former Cleveland Indian put together a monster performance Friday. Winter Ball Notebook: Santana's struggles continue
it's been a busy week in winter ball as the first round of the Dominican Winter League ends tonight, so teams have been trying to make their playoff push. Along a way, a handful of Indians players, such as Carlos Santana, Jose Ramirez and Mikes McDade, have been trying to help power their teams to the next round. Yet, unfortunately, not every player has been having success in the process. The IPI's Steve Orbanek recaps all the winter action in this week's edition of the WInter Ball Notebook.

After a nearly three week absence, Jesus Aguilar once again appeared in a winter ball contest on Wednesday, and while the slugger's appearance was brief, it was positive nonetheless. Plus, Mike McDade had a strong night at the plate, and Carlos Santana continues to draw walks and strikeout at a very high rate. There was plenty of action around the numerous winter leagues on Tuesday. Asdrubal Cabrera continued to rake at the plate while Carlos Santana unfortunately had a game that he would probably like to have back. It was a very quiet night in the Indians system on Monday night. Numerous Indians were in action in all of the various winter leagues on Friday. Asdrubal Cabrera scuffled for the first time this winter while Carlos Santana showed signs that he could be breaking out of his slump. With all the news surrounding trades and free agents this past week, it's been easy to forget about all of the Indians that are still competing in the various winter leagues. Many people took a holiday last night to enjoy the premiere of The Hobbit (yours truly included), but it was not a night of rest throughout the winter leagues. With both the Dominican Winter and Australian Baseball leagues off, it was somewhat of a slow night around the Indians farm system. There was still plenty of players in action though as Paolo Espino put together his best start so far this winter and Luis Hernandez built upon his already impressive winter. It was a quiet night in winter ball Tuesday with numerous leagues having the night off. However, some of the winter's top performers faced off in the Dominican Winter League All-Star Game, which pitted the Dominican's top performers against top performers from the Venezuelan Winter League. All the winter leagues were off last night either because no games were scheduled or they were postponed.
