2014 MLB Draft: Mock Draft 3.0
The college baseball season is entering its third month, and things are definitely starting to shape up. The top talents on both the high school and college level are asserting themselves, while other players are sliding some. Maybe it is just because of how weak last year was, but every week Jeff Ellis is more and more impressed by this class. Join Jeff as he releases his third mock draft.

MLB and the Draft: A 20 year look
Jeff Ellis has been working on draft information at Indians Baseball Insider for a few years. Of late he has focused quite a bit on the historical side of the draft and how the Indians have done. The common refrain when he has dipped into the past is that the Indians have really struggled at drafting, yet he was unsure if that was true as he was not certain of the success of every other team. So he decided he needed to figure out a system to compare every team in Major League Baseball and came up with some research for all 30 teams over the last 30 years that shows who has shined or struggled in the draft the last two decades.

2014 Draft: Mock Draft 2.0
Everyone else is releasing a mock draft, and now that we are a month into the college baseball season, Jeff Ellis is releasing his. With each pick, he looks at the team's recent history and projects who he thinks they will take based on that. Jeff goes into detail on each of Cleveland's first three picks and analyzes why these players fit Cleveland's mold and could become a part of the organization this June.

Phillies deserve the backlash from Wetzler fiasco
For those who know or follow college baseball and the draft, a story broke on Wednesday night that two players the Phillies drafted last year Ben Wetzler and Jason Monda had been reported for negotiating with an agent after they had been drafted by the Phillies. The IBI's Jeff Ellis provides his thoughts on how low the Phillies stooped and how it might affect the draft negotiation process in the future.

2014 Kent State baseball preview
The college baseball season began President's Day weekend. The Kent State flashes play Arizona, ranked 33rd to start the year. The Flashes won’t play at home till the end of March which makes perfect sense to anyone who has stepped outside in this frigid Ohio weather recently. The IBI's Jeff Ellis previews the Kent State Flashes, a baseball team loaded with potential draft picks this June.

1989: The greatest draft in Indians history
The greatest draft in Indians history happened in 1989. Hank Peters was in his second year as general manager and he ended up with a draft for the ages. The Indians selected 55 players that year and 14 made it to the majors for a success rate of about 25%. This success is even more interesting when you take a step back and look at the big picture of this draft, which the IBI's Jeff Ellis goes into detail about.

The Ultimate Indians Draft: Reviewing the GMs
Since the MLB Draft began the Indians have had seven general managers, a span of 50 years. Meanwhile, a few blocks down the road the Browns have had six general managers in the last 15 years. Fresh off his Ultimate Indians Draft, the IBI's Jeff Ellis takes a look at the drafting history of the Cleveland GMs over the last 50 years and breaks it all down and ranks their performance.

2014 Draft: Mock Draft 1.0
The 2013 baseball season is coming to an end and all the summer baseball leagues are done, so a lot of places are releasing their big boards and talking about the big name players in the draft. The MLB draft is about eight months away, but IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis is already getting daily questions about it. Last month he released his first big board, now today he posts his first mock draft of the year.

Former Indians GMs had varying success in the draft
Over the past few years a lot has been made of the Indians draft record of late. IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis has heard many fans lament the bad drafts and wish for the good old days of John Hart when the organization was loaded with talent and seemed to always produce new players to fill a need. His research shows how the last three Indians GMs prior to Chris Antonetti had their own areas of strength and how the draft for the past 20 years has not produced many major league options in Cleveland.

Where the aces are
The IBI's Jeff Ellis has often wondered where the top starting pitchers in baseball come from. Do they come from the draft or internationally? Do they come from college or high school? Is there any rhyme or reason to it all or is there really no such thing as a starting pitching prospect (TINSTAAPP)? He came up with some data which he believes helps answer that question and why the Indians may be a prime position for the 2014 Draft.

2014 MLB Draft: My Way too early Big Board
It is several months before the college baseball season begins, but that doesn't mean people aren't already talking draft. Since the summer leagues are done and the showcase circuit is over, IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis decided to sit down and make his first draft board. Next year's draft figures to be the best pool of talent in years, and with the Indians holding at least two first round picks it could be a very important draft for them.
