This is part two of a five-part series of post-draft pieces that Tony is posting to the site over the next few weeks. This series of articles touches on all 26 drafted and signed players from the 2012 Draft with a small writeup from Tony on each player and then a comment on every player from Indians Amateur Scouting Director Brad Grant. In today's piece Tony provides comments from Grant and a quick summary on Tyler Naquin, Joe Wendle, Logan Vick, Cody Penny and Richard Stock.
Over the course of the next few weeks Tony is going to be posting post-draft pieces scouting all of the players that the Indians drafted AND signed in the 2012 Draft. The Indians signed 26 players in total, and he has comments on each and every player from Indians Amateur Scouting Director Brad Grant. Another draft has come and gone with the conclusion of the signing period this past Friday. In total the Indians signed 26 of their 40 draft picks, including all of their top 16 picks and 22 of their first 24 picks. Tony sat down and talked to Indians Director of Amateur Scouting Brad Grant yesterday and discussed at length the draft and where the Indians go from here in planning for next year.
The deadline has passed and we know who the Indians have signed and who got away. With that in mind, it is time to look at who of the 26 players drafted and signed have the best tools and the best storylines to get an idea of what things to specifically look for when watching these players as they come up through the minors. IPI draft guru Jeff Ellis breaks it all down in his latest...
Today is the MLB Draft signing deadline (5:00pm ET). The Indians have now signed all of their top ten round picks and have 25 of their 40 picks in the fold. It is sort of an anticlimactic day since all of the big signings have been made and there is very little the Indians can do to add much, but they still have the means to add another player or two or three today. Tony chimes in with his last signing update of the year, and a non-premium piece to boot.
(UPDATED at 11:05 PM ET) Some big news has come out today with regard to a few high profile 2012 Draft picks by the Indians. Are the Indians close to signing D'Vone McClure and Caleb Hamrick? Or are they going to go to college? Tony has the details on the decision both of them have made, plus an update on the signing decisions from a few other players taken later in the draft.
The 2012 Draft signing deadline is but about 100 hours away this Friday at 5:00 PM ET. The Indians have officially signed 20 of their 40 draft picks, and two others have agreed to terms. Tony takes a look at the remaining unsigned 18 draft picks and catches us all up and reviews where the Indians are in the signing process with each player.
The Indians signed another player yesterday, which puts them up to 22 players that have been signed or agreed to terms (only 20 have "officially" signed). Tony gives the 411 on the new signing as well as an update on another player that is expected to soon sign, some stuff on their unsigned high profile picks, and more.
We are now 11 days away from the July 13th signing deadline, and as expected some signings are starting to trickle in. Yesterday the Indians officially signed 15th round pick Nelson Rodriguez, a player that I noted had agreed to terms a week ago in this report. In today's update I give an update on a player flying into Arizona to sign his contract, talk about the demands of 4th round pick D'Vone McClure and how signable he is, and where the Indians may go if they are unable to sign him.
The 2012 Draft signing deadline is two weeks away from today on July 13th....that is Friday the 13th for the superstitious folks out there. Will Friday the 13th bring bad or good luck to the Indians with more signings? We will see, but in the meantime Tony has several more signing updates on players and where they stand in the negotiation process with firsthand updates on Nelson Rodriguez, Joshua Pigg, Joshua Lester, and Anthony Hawkins. One of those players has already agreed to sign.
The signing deadline is two weeks from tomorrow, and right now we are in sort of a dead period with the signings as most of the early signs are in the books and now teams and players are just kind of holding out in the negotiations until the deadline gets closer. Tony gives an update on where he feels things will go with the Indians' remaining unsigned top ten round picks and also has a few updates on where a few other players are in the signing process.
The Indians are on the verge of announcing at least one signing in the next few days. Tony has the details on another high profile 2012 Draft pick that is set to sign with the Indians and gives some updates on a few other players that look likely to sign before the July 13th deadline.
The July 13th signing deadline for players picked in the 2012 Draft is fast approaching as it is two and a half weeks away. The Indians have already signed 18 of their 40 draft picks, but more are coming. In today's update Tony gives the details on where things are at with 8th round pick Caleb Hamrick and 26th round pick Justin Garza, two high profile pitchers in their 2012 draft class. He talked to Hamrick last night and a representative of Garza over the weekend and shares some interesting details on their signing status...
The Indians still have several unsigned 2012 Draft picks, and while the bulk of them have already signed, there are still probably five to seven players that will still sign before the July 13th deadline. Tony gives a quick update on what the Indians can do with top picks McClure and Hamrick as well as news on one player that signed today and two others that are expected to soon officially sign on the dotted line.
