Over the past few years a lot has been made of the Indians draft record of late. IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis has heard many fans lament the bad drafts and wish for the good old days of John Hart when the organization was loaded with talent and seemed to always produce new players to fill a need. His research shows how the last three Indians GMs prior to Chris Antonetti had their own areas of strength and how the draft for the past 20 years has not produced many major league options in Cleveland.

The IBI's Jeff Ellis has often wondered where the top starting pitchers in baseball come from. Do they come from the draft or internationally? Do they come from college or high school? Is there any rhyme or reason to it all or is there really no such thing as a starting pitching prospect (TINSTAAPP)? He came up with some data which he believes helps answer that question and why the Indians may be a prime position for the 2014 Draft.

It is several months before the college baseball season begins, but that doesn't mean people aren't already talking draft. Since the summer leagues are done and the showcase circuit is over, IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis decided to sit down and make his first draft board. Next year's draft figures to be the best pool of talent in years, and with the Indians holding at least two first round picks it could be a very important draft for them.

The competitive balance lottery happened on Wednesday to no fanfare at all, but Indians fans should really be happy about it and need to know about it. The reason is simple: this pick becomes a big trade asset for the Indians. It could be the centerpiece in a trade, especially if it's for pen help. The IBI's Jeff Ellis explains the value of the pick and how fortunate the Indians were to get it.

The 2013 Draft is long over now, and most players who are going to sign have done so. This year, IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis thought it might be fun to cap off the draft coverage here at the IBI with an Indians shadow draft. A shadow draft is exactly what you think it is: Jeff gets to put on my GM cap and make every single pick. Take a look at who he picks and compare his picks to what the Indians did.

The 2013 MLB Draft signing deadline on July 12th is fast approaching. The Indians have signed all of the bonus pool picks that there are going to sign and are $332,100 under budget which means they have some money they can use for post-10th round picks and not be at risk of being severely taxed or lose a first round pick. Here is an update on some of the post-10th round picks who the Indians have talked to and may be talking to.

Every year after the draft IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis does a tools piece, and every year it doesn't really generate much interest. As a writer it seemed time for him to change it up a bit and shake up how he goes about this article. He wanted to make it more fun and give some awards and predictions, and he shares all of that in his latest.

We are now officially down to three weeks away from the July 12th signing deadline, and the Indians have 16 players officially signed with a few more coming before the deadline. It is shaping up to be a busy weekend for the Indians as several draft picks are expected to officially sign. At least three players are expected to sign on Friday or sometime this weekend, including some big names. But one high profile player has decided not to sign, which comes as a big surprise. Today, in part two, Mirabelli goes into depth about their preparation for the draft, the philosophy of the draft, how they manage their bonus pool money, the decision-making process that goes into the first round pick (and other picks), the negotiation process, and much more.
